I was just changing the oil in my car ... well I was trying to get the oil filter off, but its stuck and hard to grip. Any body have any tips. Also, what size is the drain nut on the oil pan?

The oil filler cap is stuck also, any tips ?

Should I hammer the nut out ?

I hope I don't have to take out the engine to change the oil ... I have heard about this being done in some cases.

the drain bolt is a 14mm as far as the filter take a decent length fl screw driver and knock it through the filter with a hammer then move it towards the inside of the car (to the left) this should take care of getting it off you do not need to take the motor off geez at most if your bolt wont come out take the oil pan off

And they also make oil filter wrenches, you could use one of those. But poking a hole in the filter w/ a screwdriver is cheaper, and we're always looking for ways to save money!!!

Is there a certain size wrench filter ?

Sorry for all the questions .. but I'm a new-b ..

Can't I just get a K&N kit cleaner and clean the oil filter ?

Kid, have you been here all this time with no car? Or just not drive much? Just go to autozone and tell the guy you need an oilfilter wrench, its like ten bucks. For the cap, just get a rag over it and twist, ya pussy

yeah I have a car , will have 2 in the coming weeks but just can't find the right one ( holding out)

I'm in L.A ... driving is a must.

Autozone .... umm.. can I go to Pepboys ?

A rag over the cap and twist, how about a towel?
Will the towel give me strengh ... to twist the cap filler ?

I am stumped ... who knew an oil change could be so hard ... I wonder how hard it will be to put some brake fuild and ps fuild ...

Oil Filter Wrench And Or Strap Wrench.... Or The Boa "Strap Wrench" as they are known at Canadain Tire.... Don't forget the baby boa for all those stubborn household jars!

we have this nifty four legged spider looking filter wrench at the school shop. Did a great job Just make damn sure you scrape off the old filter's gasket (if it didn't come off with the filter). I'd recommend against using a hammer on the drain plug, try a longer breaker bar (I always tend to break things when I use a hammer to loosen a bolt). And for the love of God, don't put shit on so tight

Im not a fan of the universal strap style oil filter wrench. I like the socket style oil filter tool. Your standard ratchet fits in and you can go to town

alright .... I took out the drian nut .. the oil came out fast and splashed on my face & arms ... after that I took the towel and used it to take off the cap filler, it did a good job of it too. Next I put in new oil ... haha .. silly me, I forgot to put back the drian nut .. so I wasted some. I took off the oil filter with my bare hands and put in a new one. added more oil. Started it up .. and more oil came out because I forgot to put on the oil cap filler... next time do these things while... not on "stuff"

Next I added brake fuild .. BUT i didn't buy any so I used motor oil .. will this affect my breaking in anyway way ? (good or bad)

Yeah, I guess you could go to pepboys

A towel would work just the same, it just give you a little better grip, you should be able to get it off without any tools.

Brake and ps fluid is even easier than oil, which seems pretty easy to me.

Can't wait till you get ready to change your tranny oil

Edit: saw your post OH MY GOD, PLEASE TELL MY YOU WERE KIDDING ABOUT THE BRAKE FLUID!!!

I was starting to worry about you. You've shared a lot of good knowledge, so I was wondering how you wouldn't know how to change your oil.

The motor oil in the brake fluid was amusing, though.

dude oil change is the most basic thing!...here a hint...easiest way to take the filter off is stabing it with a screw driver
