I need to replace my transmission mount, and was wondering if you guys thought getting the Nismo unit over an OEM replacement was any better for any reason.
I have a KA with basic bolt-ons, so I'm not making 1000 hp, but would it still be worth it?

Thanks.

Might as well go Nismo if you have to replace it anyway. They wouldn't bother making it if it weren't any better then stock in my opinion....

yeah...regardless of power, stiff bushings=good

Very worth it. Stock one can rip/seperate, especially if you have a very stiff suspension setup. Ruined my Stock tranny mount and ripped 2 exhaust hangers after switching to KTS coilovers and heim joint suspension. Replaced all of them with nismo pieces and no trouble.
The stock mount is so floppy you can full compress the rubber to the top of the mount with 2 fingers, Nismo doesn't budge.

Nismo is definately the way to go and well worth the difference.

Well obviously you managed to break the stocker so you should upgrade to a stronger unit

take off mounts
go to hardware store
industrial poly-e (in the section w/ caulking and such)
get the tube and the gun (like you would with caulk)
and pump your mount full of it thru all the gaps and all that
let it dry (i let mine dry 3 days)

and put in car.
done and done.

im dong the same w/ my s13 before i put the motor in. i love it.

You can also do it while the mounts are on the car...
it's a bit messier but that's what I did.

I let mine dry 48hours.

If your stock mount is allready fucked though, its a bit to late for that method

i'd say it depends on how fucked it is...

I love my tranny mount, it's stiff and makes shifting feel alot better but it's not so stiff it makes other shit vibrate, it's just smooth. Get one NOW!

Depends on what you like, vibration has ot go somewhere. I have done poly mount, way too stiff for my tastes. made shit rattle like crazy. Great for the hardcore trackers like dousan though, or if you just don't care about shit rattling.

Yeah, I must admin the transmission mount makes the most difference... the motormounts don't really change a lot... but i did feel a huge difference with the tranny mount filled with urethane.

is there anything that's not as stiff at the polyurethane that will still do the job right?

i dont want it so stiff that it makes my shift knob back off...but i need something stiffer then what i got...cuz i can visibly see my tranny move on startup...when driving it's fine though...

maybe my motor mounts are loose...

Um on startup my shifter shakes too, I think it does with most, it's nothing to worry about as long as driving is fine.

Hence the Nismo mounts. They aren't poly, but they are 100 times stiffer than the stock ones. won't rattle your teeth.
Poly mounts will stop your tranny from moving, but transfer it somewhere else.
I hated the engine rock and exhaust wiggle on startup too. I replaced the tranny mount, those solid exhaust hangers and added a torque damper on the intake side (KA) and it tightened things up a lot. No more wiggles.
