one is 2.4L the other is 2.8L, not sure which is more popular, but I prefer the 280 personally cause a buddy has a real fast one, real nice looking one and his is the only older z car I've had personal experience with other than just seeing on the highway.

240z, lighter, looks better, its a classic
280z heavier, pug-fugly, can be found in junkyards all the time

240Z are most popular. The 280Z has the chunky bumpers. there are also the 260Z. the name pretty much tells u. 240z - 2.4L, 260Z - 2.6L, 280z - 2.8L. Now the difference. the chassis. 280z are the most rigid. but at the same time, are the heaviest. 280z's are EFI while the other 2 are carburated. The 240Z and early 260Z have the signals on the bottom at the corner, while the late 260 and 280z has the signle in the grill. The tails lights on the 240Z is different from the 260 and 280. The interiors are differen on the 240z compared with the 260 and 280. Even with just the 240Z itself there are difference in the years. There are difference in design of the doors. difference in the quater panels, the 240z and early 260 had the smaller bumpers so on the quater pannel they had the indents for the bumper. there are like 5 different bumpers in total. 3 smaller desgine and 2 big bulky ones. i can go on but you pretty much get it.

u can find 240z and 260z in the junk yard too. the 240z 260z and 280z all have the same exact body style, they all have the same chassis code, s30, so i dont get y u say the 280 is pug-fugly, I own a 280, if u didnt noe, u'd think it was a 240. A lot of people thought i had a 240 because i dont have those fugly bumpers.

i dont like the roofline on the 280z

The roofline on all S30 Z-cars is the same, unless you're talking about the red-headed bastard stepchild 2+2 variant. I don't remember exactly when they started building those (zboi?), but it was definitely by 1974. I used to have a '74 260Z, and regret ever letting it go. I want another so bad I can taste it.

EDIT: Whoa, post #260. Cue Twilight Zone theme.

I love the old Zs, I perfer the 240Z cuz it looks classier, but wiht the introduction of the 260z, they introduced also the rear sway bar.

You sir are correct. I would like to retract my previous statement about the normal 280z.

So which one had the clear cover for the headlights?

z_boi

clear head light covers u add urself. there were some factory options tho. And yes...the motor mounts are all the same. u can either mod ur mount or use z31 mounts. they bolt right up to the rb motors. but u need to mod ur oil pan and sump.

i think the 2+2 started with the 260z's i believe. which would be the 74's. and i myself dont like the 2+2 at all.
