I have had an auto s13 for a little while and noticed that occasionally it doesnt shift out of first gear. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this happens?

I had the same problem on a jeep cherokee a few years back that otherwise had no troubles. Turns out all that was wrong was a bad ground wire. Check all your wiring thoroughly. Of course the same thing could happen if your tranny is shot...you'd know better than I would since its your car, but give it a whack.

I was told in school to make sure your engine is running perfect (or as close to possible) before trying to diagnose a tranny problem. (AT only).

might be a vacuum line

Yea I think it's a bad ground of some sort because when it happens I have to put the car in neutral and turn it off and then back on and into drive and it shifts just fine.

you haven't been doing neutral drops have u?
The only auto tranny I ever saw do what you described was my friend's 92 S13.... but the point there was TRYING to kill the tranny.

Yea I am very good to the car because it is my dd, I've got my turbo'd g20 to be beating the shit out of. The car rarely does it but nonetheless it happens for some odd reason.

No one knows why? Seems to get fixed if I put in neutral and turn the car off and back on

It's the reverse lock out switch. Check the wires/connection and resecure the ground.

yea i kinda have the same problem too... but only really happens when i drive it hard, like into r and d hard like in a rush but have to turn around cause i forgot something, + i also have that little connector disconnected that supposedly causes the tranny to "shift faster" because it doesnt regulate pressure of the oil or something? i just put it in park and back into drive and works fine again...
