View Full Version : Bucket Seat Recommendation
ok this is a 2 part...first of all, i know i should search, i'm no noob lol. But after searching and reading up on all the different threads, i thought i'd cut the bullshit out and just ask a question...
I'm interested in a full bucket seat.
here's my issue
i have an S14 w/ sunroof
i'm 6'1" 200 lbs so i'm a big boy...
what seat will let me fit in there WELL w/ helmet room to spare?
also, where can i get it?
i'd LIKE to spend >500 for it, i'd love to pick up a used Bride or Recaro
also...i found the Corbeau FX1 (wide probably)...is this a decent seat? it has side mounts, 1 piece fiberglass shell w/ add-on pads for comfort and fit...350 each (only gonna get one for now)

What's your waist size? I'm a 36", and a Pro2000 is perfect for me. Now, you're not likely to fit normally with a helmet, being 6', however, a nice feature of the Pro is that you can pull out the butt padding and sit a couple inches lower, and the seat remains quite comfortable.
i'm about your size...SPG is way too tight, SPG XL would be a lot more comfortable but its $$ .. recaro pole position if pretty comfy since it has a larger seating area and isn't as tight as the SPG. i've never sat in a bride bucket so i cannot comment on fitment.
my waist size is 34
and why stay away from corbeau? just because of quality of hte fabric? can anyone tell me if it's comfortable/supportive? the FX1

I am in Hampton VA and I have the Bride Copies. Way to tight to start with but you can bend all the supports out to give more room. The thigh is perfect now, the waist is perfect now, but the shoulder is still a little tight. It is also the hardest to bend. If you want a road trip to this area I will let you give them a try. My waist is 34-36 :(. But I am about 5'10". Frankly, its the butt that you have to worry about more then the waist sometimes.
yeah...i seem to be gettin a big ole butt as of lately lol...that's what college will do to you...
how far is hampton VA from DC? i live in arlington, and if i go to my mom's room i can look out the window at the monuments lol...But i'd definately be down for the drive as soon as my 240 is painted...lol i'm not drivin all the way down there w/ my funny designs on it...
but then again, i'm really looking to get a fixed bucket seat. something that will pass for USDrift event tech, hopefully some day Formula D lol

Then you need a real racing seat. Corbeau is cheap and not nice but pretty wide. Personally, I would go to a autocross and see if you can beg someone to try some seats. Momo makes a wide seat as well I hear. Look at the specs they provide. For reference my Sparco Roadster is perfect for me. Look at the specs of that seat and you can compare within the same brand of seat. Once you sit in one seat of corbeau you can look at the specs of others to get an idea if it would be better or worse for you. Corbeau are far to wide for me. I would get a Momo or a Sparco from all the seats I have tried.
EDIT
after some more research i think i've decided on a Sparco Evo 2

good call.
Sparco EVO is what I want. Everytime I sit in one I love them more!
how does the whole side mount in the 240 work? i mean, we have the gay ass hump in the floor...does that effect it at all?
i reccomend authentic BRIDE or Recaro seats. I've used many sparco seats in the past but i'm not too happy with them. There were alot of clearance issues, especially with cars with sunroofs or if you plan to use a roll bar / roll cage.
I don't think i even need to lecture on why you shouldn't buy fake BRIDE or Recaro...beyond the whole ethics and fake image issue, think about it this way...pay a little more for a quality seat crafted to safety-tested specs or...buy a cheapo fake seat made from the cheapest materials available and molded and put together by third world country labor...

i'll let you know. i'm putting a evo2 in this week on a bride fg rail. i'll check back and let you know. btw the evo is a good fit, i'm 6'3", 210 lbs, and it isn't very tight. it fits well, let's say snug, but i bet when i get into some competition type atmosphere i will move around a little bit. BUT for 200 bucks i couldn't refuse.

i would recommend a zeta 3 L with the FG rails
back in the day when i was 200lbs and 34-36 weist, the zeta 3 L felt really comfortable and fit me well. (i'm 6'0)
i would recommend a bride over anything else is mainly because of the rails. Bride rails are the only aftermarket rails that let your bucket sit lower than stock, on stock seats my helmet hit my stupid sunroof, with a zeta 2 and FG rails i have so much more room. Yes, you can ghetto rig FG rails onto other seats but its not the same. The zeta 3 L is also a lot nicer than the sparcos, its also a lot more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
