my mom just called me to say they're not home from hawaii yet cuz the plane they were on caught on fire somewhere between honolulu and seattle and had to turn around and go back. it had to dump the fuel and all that shit too.

she said there wasn't any smoke in the cabin or anything, but the fumes were so bad they made you wanna pass out. she thought she was gonna die.

scary stuff.

At least they made it back. Be grateful they are alive and well. You can always wait a few more days for them to get back! :)

Wait. This wasnt a South West Plane was it? On my recent flight back from SNA to SJC Something flew off the plane and hit the window accross from me. It had to be something from the plane as we were at cruising altitude. Maybe it was the same plane.

it was a northwest flight. dang i forgot the flight number already.
i talked to my dad this time. he said they were about a half hour out of honolulu when weird stuff started happening. lights would turn off by themselves, and people turn them back on. the in-flight movie stopped and the screen rolled up. fligh attendants started passing out meals, then started collecting them right away, before everyone got one. then when they were about an hour out, the fasten seat belt sign came on and the plane turned around. then it started smelling like burning wires and electricity and shit. people's eyes were burning and everthing. my mom said she could hardly breathe. i'm surprised the oxygen masks didn't come down. then they turned off whatever it was that was burning.

after they landed in honolulu again, they got put up in a hotel, then got on another northwest plane tonight and went home safely. i talked to them a little whlie after they landed.

edit: 2500th post! w00t!! :drama:

I beleive the air masks come down when you loose cabin pressure, but I hope there is a manual override for that.
I am glad everyone is OK, but a law suit for the stress is not too far away, I am pretty sure of that.

there is a manual overide, but yes its for when cabin pressure is lost. other than getting put up in the hotel did they get anything else? I mean shit if that was me I'd be raising all hell and get bumped up to first class and my money refunded so I flew home for free. and not just to be a dick. I'm not a big fan of flying as it is so I'd probably shit my pants if that happened. although its not the fall that kills you, thats actually the fun part, the shitty part is the sudden stop.

Next time, before you board the plane, take a look at what kind of plane you'll be flying in...if it's a Boeing MD-11, 737 or 757, it's time to look for another carrier & flight!!

And all this was found by doing a quick internet search......YIKES!!!

i miss flying on L-1011s my fave commercial plane of all-time. I used to ride them all the time back when TWA was running the dual red stripes. Good to hear your folks are alrite man. I know how something like that strips away all that you hold dear and leaves you defenseless. Look at it like this. You appreciate things in a different manner now.

I'm pretty sure this type of thing has to be reported to the FAA, and is public knowledge, but if i hadn't read it on zilvia, im sure none of us would of known about this.

When I was on a Northwest flght going to FL from Detroit and one of the engines fell off the plane. I was sitting in the middle seat my grandfather in the window seat. I was looking out the window and go grandpa look, the engines gone. He grabs the flight attendant. "Excuse me miss, the engine fell off". Oh my dear it did. Dont know where it fell either.

so then what happened?

RacerBoi

Thats a bs story. If were on a plane where the engine fell off, I nor the flight attendant would be as calm.

nismo2491

engines don't just fall off with no prior warning

Ok I guess I like making shit up. No I was being sarcastic about the flight attendant's comment. She flipped. The pilot told everyone as soon as it happend everything was going to be alright and we made an emergency landing. It wasnt that big of a deal cause there was 3 other engines. It was kinda scary but not nearly as scary if it was on fire.

that'd be cool to just be chillin in your house, and then a fuckin jet engine falls on it. better than the whole jet falling on it i guess

yea no kidding. The fucked up thing is, it wasnt reported on the news or anything. I know it fell somewhere in Tennesee though cause thats where we landed.
