After FAR FAR too long without my car, I'm starting on the rebuild. we got the motor out and I'm begining to disasemble it. death count so far includes a 13mm socket and the altenator tensioner bolt. and I havent even gotten the head off!!! :faint: ahh well. Pics will follow as I update this. Somewhat of a guide.
for those that dont know, I figure I washed a piston Ring loose or off while tunign the standalone. so going in to inspect damage and rebuild the motor.
plans include, full gasket kit, upgrade headgasket, New bearings everywhere, OEM main studs, ARP herad studs, CP piston 9:0 pistons, new timing chian kit annnnd let's see.... thats about it. Money willing I'll do RAS, Valve springs and HKS Step 2 cams (264/264) but we'll see about that last part.
Also going in will be a new set of coilovers. new sway bars and new cooling setup. oh and new engine and tranny mounts.
all this on top of last years new toys; Microtech standalone, new turbo, new injectors, HKS EVC II and such. woot! wish me luck.
back to work I go
niceee sounds good looking forward to the update =D
all this building and rebuilding.. i hope you can drive it soon

A friend of mine is doing a rebuild to his SR as well, but he's pullin out all the stops (within reason, of course).
He seldom posts on here, but I'll see if I can get him to signin and maybe yack it up with ya.. he's pretty deep into it so perhaps he can share some useful info.
Good luck Steeley ;p

thanks guys things are going well. pulled the lower oil pan and luckily there werent any metal chunks or anything in there = good sign! hehe, but i had to quit for the night couldnt get the can gears off. need to borrow a bigger socket. I HATE not having all the tools I need grrr ah well will borrow one today and get those suckers off.
its funny I've got a mechanic thats gonna help me put it back together and lots of promises for help in that dept, but no one wants to help disassemble this bish. oh well.. off to the J-O-B

Tell brett to get off his ass and help you. Oops i forgot he is probably busy doing stuff to my car. I can't wait to drive it with the subframe spacers,p/s, and short shifter. Coilovers coming soon, this going to be a good year. Yeah anyways get that beast back together so i can drive it.

Steeles, 24mm for the cam's and 27mm for the crank. Art linked me a day or so ago. If you need some help but willing to do the disassembly yourself, I can help you out.

Thanks 180fan. I picked up a big socket set from brett on the way home. Am heading out there now. any helps appreciated :)
but.... whos Art?
Sway - whens he getting your car I didnt see it up there. yeah he's been working on some firebird. I'm doing the disassembly myself and getting him to help with the reassembly. I may be headed your way this weekend. Andy is putting his SR back together this weekend so i may come down for that and to see whats going on at Bar Charlotte. can you get in there?

fucking 24 wrench wont go over the cam to hold it steady and now I cant get the gear to break loose. waiting patiently on another set of hands to try and hold the adjustable. :( god hates me

The 24mm socket goes on the bolt. The adjustable goes on the hexed out part of the cam. I used a pipe on the adjustable to get more leverage on it. It's torqued to to ~100 ft/lbs, so the pipes will help. Did you also remove the tensioner on passenger side of the motor?

yeah I finally got it.. although I dont know WHY the fuck the FSM states you have to remove them. I got the intake side off and just unbolted the cams and popped them out. removed the upper and lower oil pans since I dont have a fucking allen socket big enough to remove the head. (the FSM really should stae whate sizes and such are needed for each procedure... would make life SOOOOO much easier.)
so till tomorrow thats where I'm stuck. block, head and front covers are all thats left to get apart. need a crank pulley puller too... have to remeber to borrow one of those.

bish I did get it running... but I broke it again shortly thereafter! haha it was back on the road for like a month and a half. then I got fired and then it blew up again! gimmie two more weeks (machince shop willing) all the parts are in stock and awaiting my order. going to pull the head and crank now. no more vroom vroom noises from the drivers seat for me!

nice, did you break the socket or just the bolt?
I BENT a snap on breaker bar today trying to take my sisters lug nuts off to do her brakes. (air compressor is non-existant right now but by next month the garage will be done :)) I called and complained to the shop that put her tires on, saying she's a 19 year old girl, how the hell would she change her tire if she got a flat on the side of the road..... They offered to loosen the lugs for me, which of course I took them up on. I would have bitched and tried to get them to buy me a new breaker bar but I'd already talked to the snap on guy and he'll be replacing it under warranty.

holy crap i didnt know those could bend. I always tell the guys at the alignment shop not to use air tools on my wheels. Luckily they know me and listen but they stripped the studs on my friend's car.

Chit sway. why didnt you remind me stuff was going on at VIR this weekend? you taking your car or are you playing pit crew? hit me up. if I finish getting this thing apart it's a definite possibility Im heaing to charlotte though to help andy.
Nismo2491 - yeah I hear that everywhere there is one it's a hot spot. course I'm a fan of any joint that encourages drunken sorostitutes to get up on the bar and shake their asses in short skirts. :)

Woot! finally got the engine apart! now to order rebuild parts. and clean up. lol I tore the block down far enough to get the numbers to order the new bearings. the rods are still hanging on the crank but I'll get to that this weekend. the important thing tonight was to get to those numbers on the crank so I could get the new parts on their way. so hopefully by next weekend the rebuild will begin! cant wait.

don't forget the numbers on the bottom of the block. Youll need those for the crank bearings. Also don't misplace your thrust bearings either.

yeah I actually left most of that stuff IN the block for now. I got all the numbers and the order should be placed first thing monday morning. hopefully everything will be here end of this week.
Also ordered my KTS coilovers from SPL today :) working on getting a Koyo. I'm debating hoses though. I think I want that flexible stainless steel hose (cut to fit) that summit offers. collapsed cooling hoses scare me. (not that it's happened to me but I'd also it rather never happen to me) I'll need more feedback on those though. soooo close I cant wait.
