I'd like to know what everyone thinks about various racing seats.
I've searched and found some good looking ones out there.
The SRT guy posted some of their seats, I like them, about $550 total 2 seats + brackets.
I also like these:
http://www.x3racing.com/product.asp?pid=RS-G2-NS-BKCF
$330 before shipping, and you get a pair with brackets.
These were also discussed:
http://www.corbeau.com/products/a4/a4.shtml#
But DAMN their high priced and i don't know about the brackets.
Matrix racing seats ( I definitely like how these look... Black/Grey is all I really want, nothing flashy... And it's a great price but I don't know about the quality.)
http://www.shophyperformance.com/store/001308.html?id=PM2JkDPg
Chargespeed $315 - $610
http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/index.php/cPath/263_365
These sparcos are nice (not the nicest of the bunch but the price is not.... very high)
http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_street.asp?id=95
They have the memory foam, sounds good.

the first ones are shit quality and not real nismo seats. they aren't good, don't buy them.
the second ones are pretty good quality and a great entry level seat. they're relatively cheaply priced...i don't think you'll find new seats of that quality for less.

i ahve A4's and while they aren't ferrari esque they still hold me very well. i dont even have seatbelts in the car yet and they hold me in like a mofo. i'm 6'2" with average athletic build (32 waist broad shoulders).
can't beat em for the money.

Seriously, I can't wait for Nissan Motorsports to ramp up big in the US, that's just blatant copyright infringment, as well as false advertising!
Shitty seats + Nismo logo does NOT equal good seats.
Shinanigans I tell you.

I wouldn't even go so far as saying the corbeaus are quality either...
stick with Sparco, Recaro, or Bride. Really. After sitting in any one of those seats, you'll understand why they cost so much more.
Corbeaus are cheap crap. Anything less then that is not even an option.

The Bride Brix "Like" seats on ebay are pretty nice. Much nicer then they should be for the money they cost. BUT they are really tight. They are much nicer then Corbeau.

I'm looking for a good reliable pair that isnt more than 7 bills.
I'm 5'10" and 160... so I'm assuming they wouldn't be too tight on me? But I'm really not looking to trust ebay bride knockoffs... :hyper:

yeah well maybe some of us don't feel like shelling out twice the cash for a seat that'll do the same thing. my A4 fits like a glove, how can you ask for more than a good fitting seat that holds you in place?

I don't know why you people are knocking Corbeau. I think they are great seats, great comfort, and a great price. I have the Forza's in red with the Corbeau 5 points. The only problem some people might have is that they are nicer than the sparco's or whatever and lighter and cheaper!! Enjuku also runs these in their race car. They did have sparco torino's, but they switched to the corbeau's. You be the judge.

Daaaaamit i told you guys i dont know shit about racing seats... But i was wondering about all them anyways, i didnt think they were really anything to talk about. I do like how the matrix ones look, but the others i was like... no thanks, thats why i didnt write anything by them. :duh:
So i got the fact "You get what you pay for" I do think those corbeaus are expensive, $320 for a single seat alone I think is expensive ( + brackets is ~$400)... So worry about me, I'm just looking for sub 700, maybe 800.. There has to be quality ones out there for that price. I mean shit a thousand bucks + on seats is pretty high (IMO), I could definitely use that extra couple hundred on some performance rather than +1 point durability on my seats.
But from these responses, I might have to.
Thanks and keep them comin

why dont you just buy a pair of S14 seats assuming you have a S13 but if the look your going for get a pair of SE-R spec V seats with custom brackets i like mine and they hold well
btw both of these options will be better then any APC 3ARacing matrix etc...... seats

recaro speeds are too big for me.

02-14-2005, 09:56 PM
Supposedly, and this is a BIG supposedly, some of the fake Brides are actually made by the same factory that makes Brides, and are essentially identically made. However, even if the rumor is true, you're just as likely to get one of the crappy ones Dousan described.
I'd also stay away from the Sparco Speed. I've got one in my car, and while they're initially good, the padding at the front of the seat sinks down over time, and has the effect of poking you in the leg every time you try to clutch under lateral forces. The Sprint is much better, as the padding at the front is actually attached to the bolsters, preventing this from happenning.
If I were you, I'd spend the money on one nice seat, something like a Pro 2000, a Corsa, or a Rev, or, even as much as I hate to say it, being a Sparco fan, a Bride. The Zeta III is very nice, and has a real level ofrigidity that the Sparcos don't have.
i saw a local guys "bride" seat he had in his 240... stitching was crap, material is cheesy looking and feeling.. the best part was the crooked and offset BRIDE logo on the back of the head rest
Shin_Kudo
02-14-2005, 10:43 PM
Yeah, anything that is fake and says BRIDE is automatically crap. The ones that are supposedly good are unmarked, and are made of a sort of suede fabric.
Still, I'd avoid them. Spend your money on a good seat, you'll want one someday and be kicking yourself for wasting the money on cheap ones otherwise.

Sparco Sprint = good stuff.
I've had lots of time in R32 and Civic Si (EP) seats, both are wonderful, but I'd have to say the R32 seats are better and something I can live with, it's not showy and have shit written all over it.

Bride Zeta II or III depending on your size and the Recaro Pole Position.
Those are by far the most comfortable seats i have sat in. I used to want a reclinable, but then i tried the bride and recaro buckets. They're so comfortable! Like Aaron (Dousan) was saying, full buckets rock. I cant wait to get my zeta III! Anybody have one or know anybody that has one for sale! :D
Anyway, dont by cheap quality seats. Stick with Bride, Recaro, and Sparco. Corbeau is ok i guess. I dont like their seats. IMO, the fabric seemed cheap and they werent very comfortable. But then again, some people love them. So its up to you. Another option could be skyline r32 gtr seats. They have excellent bolstering for a stock seat and pretty easy to get a hold of. Or you could just buy a set of cloth s14 seats or reupholster your leather ones.

02-15-2005, 01:15 AM
By the way, has anyone tried the new LowMax seats from Bride? They seem like a quite good concept, being lower and closer to center. However, the one I've tried (the one with the helmet bolsters) was way too narrow to fit in. Are any of the new line more "american sized"?
BlackS14
02-15-2005, 06:02 AM
I can only speak for the seat that I currently own as of now....the Corbeau A4's. They are a great seat....not sure where the "entry level" tag came from....I would consider Matrix seats or something of that calliber to be "entry level", but whatever...lol
Anyways...I paid close to $900 for both seats and both brackets. Only real issue I had with the rails is that I had to unbolt the slider portion of them to make the seat sit low enough for my comfort. Other than that, they're bolstered pretty well and hold my ass in like a glove during "spirited driving"..hehehe
Some folks also have issues with the quality of these seats. Mine (besides the two rips that I put in them while doing stupid things inside the car) are in almost perfect condition after a year and a half of use. They catch quite a bit of lint as well..bah....in the end...good seats for the cash IMO.

I'm fairly sure the Zeta type L is still the most "american sized" bucket they make, although that all depends on how "american sized" you are.

Those are the seats I have (unmarked ones). They are really nice. I have a real Sparco and these are better in some ways and not in others. Not kicking myself yet. They are a little tight around my shoulders. They have a quality feel in the foam. Fabric is holding up well. They hold you in well. Seem to be well made as well.

The material quality on sparco and the fact you can get decent seats with FIA approval is what made me decide to change I have one corabeau forza in the passenger side and a sparco evo L (fat shit) for the driver side I am going to change to the sparco in the long run for both sides the fit and quality is far superior also the corabeau brackets and seats put my head to the roof and i am only 6'
My biggest complaint wth the corabeau was the fabric it is very thin and snags easily not to mention I hate that velour texture
BlackS14
02-15-2005, 11:50 AM
"the Head"......I agree with you on that one. The fabric they use is not much to my liking. In the end...my Corbeaus are simply to tide me over until I can grab hold of some Brix II's

The cheap seats will tear, and are of bad quality.
I like brides, but their seats are a little bit higher in price.
I use sparco seats, i would not reccomend the speeds, or the sprint, as they suck balls for comfort.
I would also stay away from side mounted seats, as they are hard to mount in a 240 with the hump in the floor.
So that would leave us with the best bottom mount seat sparco makes.
The fighter. I have 2 of these and would not use any other seat. they are really comfy, and hold up well.
I have black ones but heres a pic of a red one. btw about $600 each with rails.

If you consider Corbeau to be expensive, I worry about you
hahahahahaah
dont buy anything from what you listed above maybe with the exception of the Sparco Torinos....but even those are still kinda large and dont "mold" your body after some break in time....
check up on SCCA forums, Porsche forums, racing forusm and buy some seats used. Lots of people sell their Recaro SPG's for less than $500, ive seen them go for as low as $300 in excellent condition. Theres a reason why Sparco, Bride, Recaro, AAR, etc are pricey, but IMO Brides shouldnt be as expensive as they are...

See....I have no issues with mine with any of the above (except for the clinging fabric ordeal even I complained above about). I feel no framing in my seats, fabric hasn't faded a damn bit...and yeah...maybe they aren't as padded as your more expensive seats, but still do a damn fine job. I daily drive in mine.....lots.....and not seeing any of this. Maybe folks who Auto-x more where sliding and moving around in the seat is more common do....hmmmm

To the original poster, Bottom of the line seat I would consider that is non oem are the Corbeaus. Why not try and find some decent s14, z32, or z33 seats? That would be a good compromise. You will learn its basically all out or nothing
p.s. How is the quality and fitment of Momo as well? I've been wondering this but nobody has much to say....They look light,hah..

After sitting in them while at Megan's shop, I am hooked...

I may be able to swing a nice discount if you guys are interested, I will see what I can arrange with Calvin (Owner of Megan)

Buddy Club Racing seat. It is good for the skinny or slim. Its also rediculously light, I can seriously play catch with it. It seems flimsy but its pretty good. Just sit in one before you get it. Has a sub belt so get a 5 point or 6 point too. Its legal in Formula D, and I would assume in most if not all SCCA events.

i just picked one of those up last weekend and so far, i'm very happy with it (although i'm still waiting on the brackets, but in the mean time it works great for watching TV in :) ). also, going back to the earlier concern of some of these seats being "too expensive", i'd reccomend just picking one up if you want it for it's true purpose and are pushed for money. it may look nice to have 2 matching aftermarket seats, but i think you'd be much happier if you spent a little more one 1 seat that's actually nice and will do it's job a little better than some knock-off's with no support (not that all of them are that way, i did have some corbeau A4's in my old car and they were pretty nice). good luck with your choice though.

I have one Sparco Sprint. Its a bitch to get in and out of but after you're in, its very comfortable IMO and holds me well (I wish I had a g right now, sparco seat will have to do). The material in the ass area is folded because of repeated use but this doesn't afftect anything but the looks of the seat when you're not sitting in it. Its also reasonably priced which is another plus.

It really isnt hype. I don't own one but I know quite a few people that do.
I thought it was just hype, and I bought a corbeau. Then I got to sit in a few Bride seats and found out you really get what you pay for with a Bride seat.
Too bad i'm too fat to fit in one properly(shoulders are too narrow, and so's the butt).

Sparco Prodrive is another fantastic seat. Similar in size to the Buddy Club, so for the slimmer, but the ProDrive is for a bit bigger people. Has more padding than the buddy club and more rigid. If I had the money I would buy one, but Buddy Clubs are cheap.
It is FIA approved, don't think they make them anymore.

I would personally probably like Bride more if it wasnt so flamboyant and name brandish. They are "designer" seats...hah. I have no doubt the quality and fitment is supurb, but I cant afford it and if I could I wouldnt be stoked on having "Bride" on my seat in 15 places

I figure I might as well ask this here. How small is the Buddy Club seat? I need something to replace my POS Sparco Speed, and the price is right. The BCs looked nice in person at JGTC, too, but the way they had them mounted meant they weren't possible to sit in. Does anyone think it'll be possible for a 36" waist to fit? I was able to fit into a Bride (I think it was a Zeta III) and was quite comfortable, it was a tight fit but I actually like that with a seat, are the Buddy Club seats different in size? Additionally, what brackets are to be used with the BC seats?

I was curious about the Buddy Club seat too. The guy let me pick it up and I wanted to buy it from just that alone! 11lbs versus a 40lb stock seat!?!?! ...the only thing holding me back is my 34" waist. Anyone sit in it my size? Damn, I need to test one of these.

Another thing, does anyone have any recommendations for a full bucket in the sub-Bride range? I'm not talking cheap stuff, more like the $5-600 range that Sparco buckets fall into.

The fighters are pretty nice, although I'd take a Pro2000 over one. It's the same seat shell, the Fighter is just drilled for a bottom mount and has a different fabric "skin". Personally, I really want to get a Pro and put a Fighter "skin" on one. (for the more durable fabric, and the anti-rip inserts)

I have the buddy club and its a perfect fit at 30-32" waist. I really like the support but it's not the most comfortable seat ever. I've driven around in my friend's Fighter and I like the cushion and comfort of it, didn't feel like it held me in one place as well but the kidney pads are really cool.

buckets are usually side mount
reclinables aer usually bottom
brix buckets are side, unless you havea super crappy cheap PROS seat. lame.

i worked iwth a guy that had one as his office chair. streetracer gt or some lame name like that. i guess its comfortable for him to sit in one for a work day. when he was away boss told me to work at his desk. it was alright im 6'2'' with a 32 waist, so it wasn't a ball cruncher, and i think my shoulders wiere a lil tall on it, but thats an office chair so to get a good feel it should be in a car so you are in the correct sitting position. just trying ot give you a rough idea.

you could get in it but you probably won't be comfortable at all. i'm a 32 and it's nice for me, but still fairly tight. one of my slightly larger friends (probably a 36 or so) sat in it and just about got stuck :). but for the record, you can use most bride or sparco side-mount brackets for it.

You should look into Recaro's, I have a set not installed in my car, yet, I can get pictures if you want, but they are full suede with blue down the middle, they are from a EVO VIII, i'm calling up wedge engineering outta Cali to make me some brackets and then it's install time. I'll post pics up later, they are comfortable and they keep me in place very well, they hold up great, nothing like the Tenzo R seats or cheapo's off of ebay. My buddy has a set of tenzo R's and the plastic pieces that go in around the belt holes fall off everytime you sit in the seat. Also if you've got money check out Bride, Ergo's and Brix's are really nice. Also go to your local shops and sit in different seats because every different company fits you differently. The Recaro's keep me in place alot better than those Tenzo R's did. Also Check out the Sparco's, the Fighters I really like even though you cant Recline them.

The seats i would really die to have would be the R34 gtr vspec seats. My friend has a r34 and those are the best seats period, as far as i am concernd.

Don't buy a reclining racing seat, if you want a bucket seat, buy one, or don't, but don't compromise.
If you want an affordable bucket seat, look into any one of the following:
-Bride Pros (raretrick was selling for $375/ea)
-The Chargespeed buckets on the first page $350-400
-The bottom-line Momos or Sparcos (speed, or sprint, or whatever), like $250
-Buddy Club Buckets (very similar to Chargespeed, three hundred something, great deal).
I've driven hard with a Sparco Torino under my a$$, didn't hold me really any better than my stock S14 seats do, I mean, they look purdy for shows, but it's not a performance seat.
Personally, I think the best performance-per-dollar right now is the Recaro Pole Position, sort of the sweet spot of the seat market IMO, but I also really like the Chargespeed and the Buddy Club.

hrm.. Norm, you got a bride seat now?
Geez... haven't seen your car in a while. Last time i've seen it was "up there" last year in fall.
Well, if you guys are going to cheap out on seats, I would suggest getting Sparco Speed or Sparco Sprint.
Sparco speed is actually replacing the discontinued sprint, but they're not the same seat.
I'm really slim, 5'8'' and 29'' waist, and I found that when I tested out the Speed vs. the Sprint, the speed was tighter and fit me better, where as the sprint was for wider users.
Other than that, for some odd reason, even though the butt support looked different on both, they felt almost the same (With the exception of the speed fitting me better).
And they're both around $250-280 (probably a little less for Sprint if you find any) for the seats.
On top of that, if you want a seat that will hold you down extremely well, these two seats are non-reclinable.
Question:
I haven't ever sat in a bride, only have seeen them, and noticed every single one I've seen is reclinable.
Are they just really really comfy seats (i know they are) that hold decently (better than stock of course, but not the best)?
Or does the fact that they are reclinable not matter at all?
I was just curious..

I had one in my EK, and my bro has one in his S14, im pretty sure hes got wedge racing brackets, they sit a little higher than stock but im 6'2 and had just enough room to get it in with a helmet on. As for the seat, its nothing special in terms of comfort, I can see it getting annoying after maybe like 3-4 hours of driving, but its one of the better seats for the price because it has a molded shell, unlike the sparco sprint or speed ( tube steel frame )

05-31-2005, 06:53 PM
I have a momo rookie (aka "Start"), its a bottom mount seat and I have no idea how it will fit in a 240. It needs the kidney pad and the leg padding to be comfortable, there is a slight bump in the bottom of the seat which I find uncomfortable after a hour in the seat due to how it mounts in a miata (slightly offset). Some memory foam would fix that problem though. My shoulders are about 20 inches across, and are a little too wide in the seat, my right shoulder gets a bit sore after a day at the track from shifting. Waist width is fine, I'm a size 34 and I fit comfortably. Seat weight is 14lb, fiberglass construction. It doesn't bend but its a low end seat so I wouldn't expect great things from it in an accident. FIA rated. I think they are like $250 bucks maybe 300?

Let see....
Bride PROS:
Cheapest of all Bride buckets. Cushion is a bit thin. Red leather is a bit pale, like pink. FEels like an ordinary bucket seat to me. Not good in summertime becuae of the material
Bride Zeta 3:
True holding monster. ITs kind of hard to get out of the car. Seats very nice but my back starts to hurt after an hour drive. I would get them again. Seats low.
ChargeSpeed carbon kevlar bucket:
Has more cushion than Bride, some people like it better the Bride because of it. Shoulder bolsters hit the door panels even with an FG type bride rail all the way to the center of the car, the seat still hits the door panels. Seats higher than Bride Zeta, almost like stock height.
Bride GIAS:

I have the Momo club GT seat. It is comfortable for a none reclining bucket. The bottom is a little hard for long trips though. It holds excellent, both for autox and the once I drifted the car.
The advantage is that I was able to use momo aluminum universal brackets, adapted to the stock 240sx rail. The seating is slightly higher than stock, but you can slide it back and forth like a stock seat.
