View Full Version : I want 245's on the front

So some 245/45 16's fell upon me for free with close to full tread life. It has been a long dream of mine to get 245's all around with not crazy camber in the front(-2 or less). I know Halo was talking about this a bit back as well but he never came back with results or anything of the sort. The rims have allready been picked as well and the size I would like to get is 16x8.5 +30 and run those all around for ease of rotation. Anyone have an oppinons on this? If this all seems to skeptical then I will be resorting to 16x8 +15 with 225/50's. I'm not against getting my fenders rolled and possibly pulled if I can find a shop competent enough in the area to pull them. I wish I could experiment a bit with this but I cant afford to =(

+30 might not make it...

+25 might. :) I am planning to do it, on skinny wheels (16x7.5 +32)

With a 5mm spacer, I'm sure it's gonna work out.
Need to roll the fenders though

Sadly thats the only size that they make the 16x8.5 in. I'm trying to avoid the 245 on the 8'' for fear of excessive sidewall flex being bad on my handling. But you run autocross competitively and arent questioning that....16x8.5 +30 plus a 5mm spacer would put me at +25. What should I be more worried about, clearence on the strut or on the fender??

strut...
no worries for fenders...
i test fitted a 245 tire on a 17x8 +35 wheel and i needed 5-10 mm to clear the strut (it was touching, but i could push the wheel completely on the hub).

245s on x8 rims is not even stretching it to me..

while we're talking offsets and stuff, 16"x4" what offset and ideal tire size for front?? don't ask why that thin just answer. I want to retain pretty much stock rolling diameter so the sidewall number too is appreciated (what's that called again? profile or something?)
and halo: I thought canadian 240's had the built in daytime running lights below the turn signals? or did you integrate into those kouki turn signals?

Are you being sarcastic? I doubt you could find a 16x4 wheel... even less one that can clear stock calipers. Maybe 155/80R16 if that exists.

I sold my daytime running lights and I have integrated them in my Chuki turn signals. Maybe I should, never bothered to do it.

I have 245,s on17x 9" front +19mm, 30mm fenders and I have just a little clearance on the coilovers
Wish I would have gone 235!!

A little clearance is better than no clearance. ;) what tire are those?
how much camber are you running? what coilovers?

yeah I want 16x4 or maybe even 3" or so, but its a drag car thats why I want so small, sknny's and fatties man. for the street I'll just be running probably 16x6 or so, something still smaller than the back but at least I'll be able to turn into parking spots without understeering. nice 9-10" in the back mickey thompson et-streets, mt et fronts on the front.

I run 245/45/16s on a 16x8 wheel for race tires. 25mm offset. No issues clearing my konis and GC coilovers. 245 on an 8" wheel is the ideal size. Don't look at drift setups for optimum wheel/tire combos.

Exactly, what I thought... Drift setup often stretch the tires...

245 on a 8.5 is barely a stretch at all. But it looks like I will be getting the 16x8 +15, I trust ya Halo. Now I just have to wait three months from the date I order them =(

Where did you get the wheels from? how expensive are they? got any pics...? I am VERY interested.

$445$ but they are currently 20% off if you pay cash and free shipping I believe.
I was looking at GramLights a bit back, but I figured I might as well save a bit more, get the better size and go forged.

ah.. a little expensive for a 3rd set of wheels. ;)

Yeah I know!! hahah, you and your collections. Damn worth it though, sell one of the other sets and grab em. After the 20% off it doesnt look nearly as bad.

I already sold my SSRs to get Advans... So I am pretty much stumped. Advans SA3R and Volk Racing Group-AV.. love them both, can sell them. ;)

I find that they do have some stretch in it. And it's the same thing with my GF 17x9 and 245 tires... they are stretched a little bit.

Yeah that is some stretch in my oppinon. they arent a terrible fit or anything of the sort, but are slightly stretched. Do what ya gotta do

Sorry to but in but would 235's be okay for an 8` deep rim or should I go for a 7`? I prefure to just get a nice set of lightweight 16x8's rims now that way later on when I am finished with the suspension(1st jump is rims/tires/brakes) and start on the engine that I could keep the rims instead of buying hole new ones and just put more meat(245's) around them.
Also, would having 235's all around on a stock hp car negativly effect its performance, even if the rims/tires set is lighter then the stock setup? I understand it should help in braking and cornering g's but how what about how quickly it reacts to my inputs(ie from making the transition from turning left to turning right) and lateral acceleration?
*im currently trying to search for the last answer but I figure it would be nice to get an answer from it here that I can reply to if I have any further questions..

Thanks

A good tire properly sized onto a 16 or 17 wheel will only improve your cars lateral acceleration. Just select your tire carefully. You want as sticky of a tire as you can get. Make sure the treadwear is no more than 220.

well 235's are harder to come by, thats one major thing. Most tires go 225 then 245

So I should just get the 245's all around?

since we're on this topic...

What do you guys think about me running this setup front and rear on my S14 kouki
Coilovers w/ camber plates
17x9.5 +15
245/45/17

I'm sure the rears will be fine, but I'm kinda iffy on the fronts. I'm not sure if they're gonna clear unless I get a smaller tire like 225/45s

HaLo

Let's see. S14, Widebody... are you kidding us?

We're talking about S13 with stock fenders. If it fits, surely it fits on s14s... espacially if they are widebody.

let me clarify...

I am talking about for my S14 Kouki, provided that I have pulled fenders at all 4 corners, you guys think I could run the 17x9.5s +15 and 245/45s at all corners?

02-14-2005, 08:31 PM
im rockin 17x9.5 +22 on all 4 corners with no spacers on my s14 w/ z32 brakes. and using 245/40/17 all around NOOO PROBLEM RUBBING! well i had to roll the front fenders.. :)

soarer240sr
02-14-2005, 09:03 PM
well actually on that pic my car had 255-40-17's on the rear and 245-40-17 on front but i got new tires and went 245 40 17 all around. i slam'd the shit out of it.. i like it alot and it looks better. i will take new pics and post it with 245's all around . is ur s14 kouki or zenki? i forgot.... my friend has the same wheels only in gold and he drives an s14 kouki and the fenders on his car is much wider thans my zenki and he didnt have to roll the front fenders..

exactly what I thought...

anyways, i received my Advans today.. the buyer listed them as 16x7.5 / 16x8 but they are 16x7... I WILL STILL TRY TO FIT A 245 on it, DAMN it! :D

You thought it but you Canadians are to dang polite to say anything. Take some pictures of them with the 245's on there when they are and try and get some money back from that gent. Tell him they are acceptable but not as described or whatever. Dont take it sitting down!

I should... I know. I waited for them 2 months, received them today... and boy was I pissed.
I'll see what I can squeeze out from him.
