I pulled my radiator due to a crack and came across this.

The hose connects to the intake pipe. Is this some kind of resonator? Can I just plug the hole in the intake pipe and throw this out? Any benefit from doing so?
Also, is it safe to remove and plug this hose? (the one in my hand)

I already removed the AIV a couple of months ago and plugged the two small hoses. I didn't realize they ended up right here. I want to pull them off and plug them over by the throttle body, but this larger hose Ts off of one of them. Can I remove it and also plug up that hole in the intake pipe?
Just trying to neaten things up :)
Yeah first one is intake resonator, it wont have any affect without it, so yeah, plug the hole. Not sure on performance but you'll have an increased intake sound, especially if you put on a cone filter or something.

Resonator is trash, cap the extra hoses.

So is it safe to remove the somewhat larger hose that connects to the intake off of the T, or should I still be capping before the T?

i m pretty sure your holding you idle air valve hose, in which case pluging it will cause your car to not idle. does it come from under the intake mani? or from some where else?

i would keep the resonator box. its there to hold air untill the engine needs it. air needs someplace to go other than slamming into the intake valves. it helps build mid-range torque. i dyno'ed on a previous car with and without a resonator box. mid-range torque was up significantly and the torque curve is much flatter with it in.

Are you sure that was it? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me that such a little box on a hose would make a difference in engine power when you have a big intake pipe full of air already.

No.
The larger hose behind his hand is IACV.
And the resonator's purpose is not to store air, but to reduce air turbulence and quiet down the intake noise. What happens when you remove it? Car gets louder. All cars use a resonator of some kind to be ear friendly.

did you mean, slamming into the throttle body? Although if you're not boosted, that still doesn't make since. A N/A engine only pulls in the amount of air it needs. Once the intake valves or the throttle body is shut it's not pulling in more air, until they open again. But anywho, yeah, everyone knows (or I thought they did) that the resonator is for ear pleasure. One of the things that makes aftermarket intakes make power is the fact that they do away with resonators and baffles. A good filter would flow enough air that a little box holding "extra" air would be pointless. The box is at the end of a long intake pipe and after the throttle body, so I'm not seeing that helping response or anything like that. Personally, I don't think you dyno'd a car that gained power by having a resonator in, so until you show some kinda proof I'm gonna have to call
