I hope I'm not the only bozo who did this....

Last weekend, I took 8 hours to put in a nice set of Tein Super Street coilovers in my wife's car. Took hell of a long time, esp for me to figure out that I had to go through the rear seats to get to the rear shocks (mine is a '93 vert)

Well in short I got it to happen, but there was something about the rear shocks and how they mount to the lower arm that was bugging me. I called up Tein and they answered my question. So back it was to jacking the car up and fixing my problem.

I think this is when I left my wheel lock on.... yes... you guessed it, I prob drove off with them still on at some point. And when I was looking for it today - can't find the thing... :faint:

Since its the wife's car I tell her whats up, and she tell me not to worry cause they're stock rims and no one is going to steal them. :squint: I tell her what if she has a flat? Thats when she took my lifted Bronco. So I'm stuck with her car, until I can get these damn wheel locks off...

I end up going to the dealer to try to see if these locks are factory (dunno why I had them to begin with since they were factory wheels), and the service manager is telling me how there is a number - and they should be able to take them off.... but he takes a look at them and tells me that they are aftermarket parts, and that he has to drill them out, and that it would be hundreds of dollars to do... :fawk: yea right.

So I politely tell him :rl: that ain't right, and take off.

As I'm driving home I see a tire place, drive up and ask the guy if he can help - but the problem is he don't speak much English.... But the manager does and he tells me he can help me out. He says $20 should do it. For 1? For ALL FOUR. Well $20 sure sounds cool. But they come out with all sorts of adapters and stuff and nothing works.

So I basically give up, when the first guy who don't speak much English comes back with another adapter. :bowrofl: Yep thing comes off! Yes I get my Bronco back! :2f2f:And no more wheel locks for my wifes car... thats for sure. Come to think of it, I have 35" on my truck with Mickey Thompson wheels, and I don't have wheel locks.... :bash:

Moral of the story?
It is true that dealers are :wackit: and local shopts are  pretty cool people

Oh yea... one more thing.... with that special ratchet tool - he took it off like a regular lugnut. So I guess these wheel locks are pretty meaning less....

would depend on the wheel lock and type....some are extremely cheap and come off easily. others are just well...stuck.

Lugnut extractors work on all lugnuts. Nice shiny new ones, old rusty rounded ones, and locking ones! Three tires shops, and not one suggested one of these tools to you???

with a can of fix-a-flat you could have tossed the spare and jack and been all set

a hammer and chisel usually works good to take off locking nuts.

Theifs stole my wheel lock when they jacked my stereo (shouldnt keep that sorta thing in teh glove box I guess) and never bothered me til I needed new tires... So we hit up a local ricer shop and they had one, I had to leave a 20 for deposite to let me borrow it.. then i just ended up keepin it.

I guess you would have to steal the tow truck first and then steal the car next.

Just hammer a tight fitting sized socket onto the end of any lugnut and that's it. Don't hammer it all the way on though or you won't get the lug out of it and you'd need to ruin a socket for every lugnut.... I've lost the keys to mcgard's, gorrilla's and Kykugen's, works everytime.

Well I'm not sure that everyone would agree - but I'd say that there is no point in using wheel locks on factory rims... especially if you're as clumsy as I am as to leave the shmuckers on there.... or as someone put it, if they steal the wheel locks you're outa luck as well....

I just wanted to shed light on those who may have this problem and were afraid to come out... :) and didn't want to get it up the behind from the dealer.
