here's the scenario...i have a 95 240 w/s14 swap and the stock bov is bad(my boost gauge reads @ a consistant 5lbs). i know the factory boost is set @ 7 lbs and i just received my hks ssqv in the mail so my question is how much hp will the new bov give me when i get it installed?
uh, well depending on if your car is really performing or not...it will probably do nothing
if you've been actually running at 5 psi then i'm guessing your car is really slow and it should feel about stock (for a S14 SR) when you get the BOV on
BOV's are not performance goods, they're about as functional as a universal wing

damn and i was just going to ask you how much hp diff i would get from the apc wing i just bought(jk)....thanks for the response that answers my ?
well let me correct myself, BOV's obviously have a function, but the difference between them is nominal, and in fact until you get to higher HP applications, the Stock one is best
Recirculated will give the best response
well if its leaking you're also leaking metered air, which causes you to run super rich which also hurts your powerlevels

yeha if you leak air you might have problems with your car stalling

what gauge do you have for boost?
if you say autogauge or some similar craptastic brand, then that could be your prob right there.
If indeed your existing BOV is leaking, then you're not making full boost, and thus not as much power as you should be (2psi isn't TOO big a deal... I can definitely understand your frustration tho!). Are you sure it's your BOV? Check all your piping for leaks (do the soapy water bubble thing), and make sure that the BOV is really where you're leaking from. Does your boost gauge also measure vacuum? at normal operating temp, at idle you should be somewhere around -18 give or take a few, depending on how well your install went.
Like boosted and Id said, if you're leaking too much air, you're creating a rich condition that will hurt both your performance and gas mileage. If you're running ecessively rich, you run the risk of severely fouling your O2 sensor, plugs, and having lots of nasty exhaust popping, all of which will cost you some ponies as well as hard earned cash (replacing fouled parts). Do you have any of those symptoms?

really? and here I thought it was to help protect my engine/turbo, silly me.

the car actually stalls frequently which i'm sure has to do w/the bov not being recirculated....but the bov seems to sputter at about 4500rpm give or take so i figured its bad. anywayz i got a better bov cuz i plan to start turning up the boost by the end of the year(budgets suck)
