What do you guys think for my 17x9s +15?
Yokohama AVS ES 100
235/45/17-front
255/40/17-rear
These are going on an s14 with Tein HEs... not slammed by the way.

^^those are WAY too small if you're trying to put down any serious grip. If this is for roadrace/autoX then go with balanced setup 255 all the way around. If its just for street (look good stuff) then throw on a 225 up front, and a 245 out back.

because the original posted did not specify what he was making the car for, i decided to post my specs.
my car is set up to drift.
if i wanted a grip car, i would definitly put bigger tires on.

I run 245/40-17 on all 4 corners with 17X9, +25...that's what I'd reccomend.
I don't see the need for bigger int he rear with same sized wheels...that, and the 240SX is pretty balanced already (maybe a tendency toward understeer at the limit)...so why exagerate that with wider rear tires?
Plus, you can rotate you tires and get a few more miles out of 'em...

This should be a big reason for anyone running aggresive alignment specs.
I'm against staggered tire sizes unless it's a show car.

Whats a grip car? Like the driving you do basically everytime you drive your car?
Being able to rotate the tires and have equal balance is the reason why I listed my sizes. But with adjustable suspension you can compensate for that understeer thing. Oh well!

a grip car is just that, a car designed to grip well.

^^yes, but for street tires with the occasional autoX or something, they're not bad at all. If you really want grip, go with azenis sports, but i wouldnt recommend daily use (they wear down quick)

^Okay is this your car??
You seem to know what he is going to be doing with it.
I have the same set up as brian.

Amen!!!!
Drifting is the :ghey:
Just kidding, it's not because I am into Auto-X/Road racing that drifting is :ghey: . Different times, different opinions.

Halo, have you ever checked out Gymkhana events? It's like auto-x on steroids.

This is going to be street set up although I am an aggresive driver... I'm looking for something sticky yet practical for rainy situations... Azenis sports were my first choice but from what i've read in reviews they have poor wet traction performance.
Basically these will be my everyday tires... I'm running with an Rb25det tho so i would atleast like to have a little bit of grip.
Could i even fit 255s all four without pulling/rolling my fenders?? (s14)
I'm afraid the 215/225 would be too small since i'm not up to drifting yet... well more like there is no drift facilities anywhere around my town.

Saw a few vids... that is some crazy shit... I wonder how they don't get lost!

^^^ yeah I was wondering the same frickin thing. I feel that way about autocross too though. But saying you grip drive is retarted. ITS JUST NORMAL DRIVING. I wouldnt imagine you having to roll/pull the fenders but if you do it just makes it look way better. so yea!

saying you are a grip driver is retarded?
usually, in our car culture, you have 2 types of drivers, grippers and drifters.
drifters drift
and
grippers grip
this could be applied to touge.
or if you don't care.
F it all.
Actually, before drifting, there was no NEED to specify "GRIP" driving because GRIP was the normal way to drive quickly... Now, owning a FR, you have to specify you are a grip driver which is stupid imho. You can choose to be a drifter or not. But in the end, you'll need grip to drive your car... cuz without grip, you're going nowhere.

drifting is about grip control
Drifting is also about weight transfer and balance. :)

no grip means shit control on both those
grip is still key
most importatn imo. shit tires mean shit drifting
anyways, i love grip and drift
both are fun as hell! :)
Indeed. What do the best drifter drift on? Grippy predictable tires. I've seen some drift on R-compounds! (Advan-048R!)

speaking of gripping power of drifting.
some of the US pro drifters say that they dont even get enough grip with their brand new US spec tires.
so yes, drifting needs grip.
this thread got fucked.
