View Full Version : D2 Coilover **Semi-Recall on defective coilovers**

This was posted in one of the threads by the North America D2 Reps.
I called them today and spoke to Michael directly. Micheal was a nice guy but told me that if I bought my coilovers through a groupbuy (like the NICO forums), that I would have to deal directly with the Groubbuy organizer (Mark).
Does anyone have the contact information for Mark from the NICO Forums?

UPDATE
This thread has come our attention and I wanted to address some of the concerns. At one point D2 switched manufacturers for some of the oils in the shock and so far all the shocks which have had excessive noise coming from them have been traced back to this manufacturing run. D2 has since switched back to the original supplier and all coilovers sold recently and any sold from now on should not experience this problem. Again I want to stress that this issue is not a problem with every D2 coilover sold, only some. It may not even affect all 4 coilovers, depending on the dampening it could just be your rear struts or just your front struts that are affected.
We have extra replacement struts on the way from D2. If you feel your coilovers might be affected by this you will (upon confirmation of defect) be eligible for replacements free of charge. We will also extend this offer through next winter to be sure that if your shocks are from the questionable batch you will be eligible for a replacement then even if they don't start acting up until that time. I would like to reiterate that this does not affect all shocks only a relatively small # of the overall coilovers in the US. If you feel that you are affected by this please call us AFTER FEB 1ST (we should have replacements by then) @ 919-383-5000.

I already did like 2-3 weeks ago, I think this was before the whole semi-recall thing. Mark said he already put it in but I haven't received anything yet. So I asked him to make another request today since today is when D2s should have the replacements in. Hopefully we'll be able to get our replacement coilies soon, loud as shit in the cold. D2s don't suck, just the defective ones that will be replaced for FREE

I'm with douchesandynamite, D2 is crap.
But at least they're owning up.. so I guess its not all bad.
Still, I won't buy D2 coil overs.

I dont know, I have the d2's, and for the price I paid, I think there pretty good, feels just like all my other friends coil overs, but I payed 900 bucks less :yum: Just because of a recall does not mean they suck.

this is kinda laughable...you guys know Nissan has had recalls, right?
some peoples' reasoning skills are pretty flawed..

you people take everything so serious
i dont buy those because
a) poor quality
b) lack of us support
c) spring rates
d) valving info?
um..yeah tahts it
btw, ihave Tanabe DD now and had TEIN HE before.
both have good US support, tanabe soon to do revalve, tein always did, can always upgrade and both have great customer service. and both are of high/decent quality
poor reasoning my ass
good luck on your shock replacements. wish you the best..
and if you say cost, i paid WELL WELL WELLLLLL under retail.

Yea the sound does suck but they are replacing it for free. This should not make them bad coilovers or a bad company at all. They just decided to switch manufacturering companies but went back after they found out about the defect. The coilovers themself are solid.
i figure you gotta start somewheres,
the D2's out performed by sportline / AGX combo by a ton and they actually cost me less.
when i get the new struts and they go another year or more i will consider them a good buy then get something hotter.
no reason to get something crazy until you can actually appreciate it, now i have something to compare against.
Speaking of which, how do you know that your on the recall list? Mine make noise, but how much noise is considered a recall?
