It may not be the best looking mod for tails, but for the money it definitely looks nice. Kinda cleans up the back a little bit.

for $5 you can paint it. if you don't like it you can buy another panel for $10.
that's my take on it.

Paint wouldn't turn well at all on an s14 I think. And you couldn't find more taillights for 10 bucks.

You did an ok job though.

Hell, if I can get em free I'm going to Disneyworld while I'm down there.

it's for promotional pictures. that's why they need a car with a back end in good shape and body mods are preferred.

Yeah, that is Brandon's car, same way the lights were done on my old S14, same way Russ had his on the blue car, same way my best friend has his on his 95... I have a coupe now and will be doing the same thing, with paint... I don't have any hangups about painting, having seen it in action before

Russ had the blue in the middle, smoked on the corners thing for a while. I wasn't a big fan of that.

Yeah we were talking about you today. I love the look of your car and I'm thinking we will probably try a bunch of new stuff on your car for pictures. I'd like to cover your headlights as well, but unfortunately (unless you have another set) we'd have to take it off before your trip back to Atlanta. Unless you don't mind getting 100 tickets on the way back.

can I suggest that you take some night pictures with the lights on? Just to show how they light up at night and how much they darken/change the color etc.

Russ was one of the first ones with it, and he did it his way... Brandon and mine were smoked clear across... My coupe will just have the lights smoked

Yeah try whatever on it doesn't matter to me. I'm sure it will be tasteful.

Is it all headlight vinyl that is illegal or just the yellow?

Cause this would look sexy on a kouki. Whew. May have to get a few tickets.

From what I've been told by the local police, any color on the headlights is illegal and for off-road use only. I had the yellows on my Audi for an AutoX event and left them on for a week afterward, only driving during the day. The cops told me that even during the day they are illegal.

We did however smoke my roomate's Mazdaspeed headlights which he has never had a problem with, and are still on the car.

Regarding your trip back, I would imagine you would be pulled over, given a ticket, and forced to remove them before you were let go. It really wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah now that i think about it, scraping that off my headlights on the side of 85 would suck.

How in hell do you get to Florida on 85?

I'd like to see Kouki tails in all red, they look like total ass any other way. Full smoke like B's car is cool but the paint we used is sensitive and begins to etch, requiring it to be sanded and repainted every few months. Vinyl would hold up better under most conditions I would think.

DOT law specifies that all headlights must be "white". They specify "white" as an aggregate range of light wavelengths. OEM HID's fall into this category, barely. The look you are going for with the yellow vinyl is an imitation of "selective-yellow" light, which is illegal in the U.S. for headlights, as the wavelengths of light coming from them do not fall within the DOT definition of "white". The government tolerates it from OEMs in some fog light assemblies, but not headlights.

Most cops don't know all of the specifics I just listed above, just that yellow headlights are not acceptable. That's why the give you tickets for it.

Remember Jerome (now Chad's) car, didn't it have the tails smoked? I thought it was when Brandon and I came down to Dave & busters a couple yesrs ago... If not, I will be the first of the coupes I have seen with smoked tail lights.

I guess I would have found this out if I hadn't tried killing myself in my car 3 months after Heyden and I smoked mine? But Roger has had his done for well over a year now though

I thought Jeromes tailights were stock. I was behind his ass on a few mountain runs and i just remember the left side of his bumper was just black from smoke. HAHA. He should have kept that car. Right before he sold that car when it was all stock I had trouble keeping up in my car. I still had the ka but I had suspension and an lsd. He is a kick ass driver. And my car was automatic and would downshift and burn out for no reason.

Well coming back from Florida to my house I'd be on 85.

They are going to use vinyl on the taillights. I've liked the all red idea for a while and that's probably what I'll try to leave with. They are going to play around with lots of different schemes on my car though.

What about those GTO headlight covers that, in the day time, are black, but at night light the road just as well, people don't get pulled over for those.

Cops being nice, they would be well within their rights to stop someone with those, I know someone who had them on his galant back in 99 who got stopped with those on his car...

the blackout headlight covers are illegal. And they actually cut light output by about 15%. Not a whole lot, but with halogen headlights, you need all you can get.
