Actually i've found cars in better condition than those at the pick and pulls before... and some with interesting mods too... most notably the convertible CRX, and the old Mercedes 300 with a toyota 22R. but anyway the point is that the issue is not that people have cars that are in poor condition... you see tons of those every time you hit up any impoverished area... the "problem" is when people try and play up the neglected welfare of their cars and try and prove that it's a good thing.. as if it's actually cool to have a car that your parents probably wouldn't want you to be driving because it's most likely in an unsafe state of tune (not just mechanically, but how much you wanna bet some of those body panels or lights can easily fall off vs. if they were adequately affixed as they should be?). And that is also the major problem, is that you're then giving impressionable kids younger than yourselves this skewed conception of what is the right way to modify a car. is it really to drive the fuck out of it (and you *can* drive a car hard and well w/o blowing engines, believe it or not.... people who blow that many engines are just further proof of neglectfulness) and then think you're so cool that your car looks like something that can be picked up at the junkyard for 300 bucks?

I understand lots of these kids are just that, younger folks who aren't in the best financial standing... so of course we can't expect their cars to look nice... and by look nice I don't even mean 2000 dollar paint jobs and body kits etc... by looking nice, I mean to have body panels that match and aren't falling off, and basically a car that isn't a hazard for not just the driver, but others around him. heck, even a stock car looks nicer than some folks' "modified" cars on here. I totally expected this, but it's ok. I know there will be a percentage of haters out there. I respect your opinion and encourage it. First off, yes, someone did slap duct tape on it and then removed it. For a while it held my bumper to my car. But I have since upgraded to zipties. The rims aren't 24s, they're 17x8 and 17x9 +14 offset with a 2.5'' lip in front and 4'' in back. I don't think any Escalade owner in their right mind would rock these wheels, but maybe a Mercedes owner though.. The sticker is cool, I know it's not on straight.. in fact, the entire bumper isn't even on straight. Doesn't bother me.

The real owner of this sn (JH) has a nice clean KS13 that would confuse people.. and amazingly enough, it's driven! =O OMG!!! Clean AND driven hard!??!?!

it's seen it's fair share of accidents, but the owner didn't feel compelled to showcase the damages and show them off with pride... he didn't feel the need to show anything off. he just fixed them in due time because no one likes an eyesore when it doesn't have to be an eyesore.

Which is the point still, there's still an inordinate amount of folks here who still feel such a strong need to prove that they "drive" their cars by aggrandizing the rough condition of their vehicles, when in reality, doing so just shows that they don't care as much about their cars as they think people think they do. and the real downside is that, as someone else said, they're essentially making this style the new norm, and that's giving up-and-coming enthusiasts a bad example to follow. I don't give a shit about myself... i know what i like and what i don't like.. and obviously you don't give a shit about what i like either... but i'm more concerned about the impressionable folks out there that are going to get into this facet of the sport thinking that that's the way to go.. and it really does just ruin things for the rest of us.

btw, I do have a Q45 as my daily beater... haven't had an S-chassis car for a few years... have a number of cars with/getting sr20dets, but none are 240SXs, and got another one now that will confuse people. so that's my background. so you say these guys (and this all isn't about just these guys, but all folks on here with the same mentality, it just so happens that these guys sparked the discussion) "don't care" about their cars (and again, let's discount the fact that they're the ones displaying their cars on a public forum for others to see, and that they're getting their panties bunched up over opinions that don't jive with their own, etc.). here's the real kicker: they will... eventually... and-if they're over 22-hopefully soon. Unless:

1) they move on to the next big thing when drifting eventually dies out and its popularity has run its course in the US (bad),
2) they think back and remember this thread and feel such a strong desire to prove us wrong that they will/can always have neglected cars they can be so proud of because it proves they're "hardcore" (bad),
3) they never grow out of that phase and end up being one of those older (over 26 yo) folks you see driving jalopies (and there's nothing wrong with being impoverished and not being able to afford to upkeep a car...we've all been there, done that), but are still trumping up their ghettoness and thinking they're the bomb diggity (ok, that's bad...and sad)

almost 10 years ago i covered up the "battle damages" on my conquest TSi with visa/mastercard stickers. I was a poor student too. been there, done that. But then again, i was also like 18. after a short while i realized.. WTF am i doing? So i saved up and bought replacement panels to replace parts as i banged them up. When i wrecked my wheels, i'd laugh and blame myself, and save up to repair them and get new tires. Why? cuz i cared about that pos. and i cared about keeping it in a proper state of tune where it wouldn't be a hazard to me, or worse yet, other people on the road. Last thing i'd want to do is have parts fall off (yes, did that once too) and cause an accident (picked up the part before cars came fortunately), or worse yet, have to drive my mother somewhere in the thing and just have it be a death trap (or embarassment) for her too. so the car eventually ended up appearing-gasp-clean! And-gasp-it was still driven hard. But I guess it's cuz i actually looked at the big picture and thought bout all that, and about others beyond myself...

i have no need to showcase my current cars here.. they're nothing special to look at. I don't know the "right" look. some people like DA BOMB body kits and chartreuse paint.. it's not wrong, maybe just questionable taste.
