I just got a Nismo 2-way LSD (part #3842ORS430). I have the LSD and that is it. Will this fit into my 92 240sx without new sideshafts? If so how hard is the install? Any feedback is much appreciated.

did you get the model that is for an open differential or one for a car with a vlsd? the shafts i believe are different lengths between the two models. if you got the right model then it should fit in with no complications.

you didnt get the kit?

its 38420-RS661 for open diff

comes with new seals, new bearings, new cover gasket, and 1.5L of 80W90 Nismo LSD Oil

:squint:

...and it doesnt require new sideshafts

In case of difficulty understanding on how to install an LSD. see about getting last month's HCI mag, since it covers a very indepth article on dropping a KAAZ lsd in. Don't worry about the differences b/w the kaaz and the nismo lsd. install is the same for both. break-in procedure is the only difference.

Yeah that's the problem it's from Japan so I don't know if it is for the VLSD model or for the Open diff model...and I didnt get the kit...I just have the actual LSD and the part number.

actually KAAZ's break-in procedure is recommended with all LSD installs, supposedly the Nismo is a drop-in (no break in necessary) but I played it safe since its a special mod

how much are these nismo lsd's running ya?
and how much is that kit?
I've been seeing them on Ebay, and i've also noticed them at private vendors, but never really looked into them until recently...
i wonder if my local nissan dealership would stock them?
anyways.. sorry not meaning to highjack this thread.

It could be for the vlsd model or the open diff model, same thing. The difference is the length of the driveshaft of the ABS model cars, not the differential difference.

so it just depends on if the LSD is for ABS or not?

i just put in my kaaz lsd and the install was really easy. theres a thread on the kaaz install and i followed it, and mine worked perfect. just make sure to torque the bolts right especially the ones inside the differential. set the backlash back to stock and youll be fine. if you dont trust yourself, at least take it apart and send the pumpkin to a shop and let them do it. taking it off is super simple. hope this helps.

Nocturnal, I believe there are two different Nismo LSD's. When I got mine there were 2 or 3 different part numbers on the manual. I can check when I get home if you have the right one.

I believe there is one where you DO need new sideshafts. That would suck.

PM or email me to remind me to look.

I got mine of off Ebay ridiculously cheap. It was brand new. So check there. I can't imagine ever going back to an open diff. LSD's are soooo much fun.

I have the nismo manual::here are tolerances and instructions:: M12 bolt (98-112 ft-lbs), M13 (130-145 ft-lbs), Bearing cap (65-72 ft-lbs, use threadlocker!!!), standard backlash(normal pitch .13-.18mm, fine pitch .10-.15mm), Rear gear case bolts (1-2 ft-lbs)::: also to note other than RS-500A is states to not use side flanges that came with the car.
