i have the dreaded hesitation of the SR while boosting. the motor is stock. i've checked everything and replaced everything that needed to be replaced, but the only thing i haven't checked were the coilpacks, which i noticed Halo saying that they could be a problem. i called various shops and got the average of about $170 for EACH coilpack brand new. phase2 offered me a set of 4 used ones for $120. but since i spent all the money on everything else, is there any way to fix the coilpacks or alter them, or am i forced to save up for new ones?

Did you check your spark plugs first?

What are your symptoms? If the coilpacks are arc'ing you can cover them heavily with JB weld which will aid that a good bit. Spark plugs and wires allready done? Gapped properly? Sure you arent running rich?

spark plugs are fine and gapped fine. i'm pretty sure i'm not running rich. what do you mean about the coilpacks arc'ing?

might as well upgrade.

arcing means that the insulation on the wires is worn out and the spark is jumping from the wire to the nearest metal object instead of traveling through the wires to the sparkplug. this will cause misfires and will be worse under load when you are boosting.

^^^^ ding ding ding!!

Go out to your car in the dark with a water spray bottle deal. You want a very fine mist but spray it in the general area. Also if it is arcing real bad you will be able to hear it just sitting there. What are your symptoms exactly?? I dont want to just send you off buying parts if that isnt going to solve the problem. He's saying it does it under boost, not all the time. I had the same problem, and I talked to the owner of sr20store.com, and he had a car there with the same problem...replace coilpacks

if you hunt on ebay long enough, you can get a set for like $70 shipped

70 shipped for NEW ones?!

to be more specific, it also has a greater chance of better boost in the daytime vs night time (aka colder air). when i boost at night, it's total hesitation. i have denso platinum plugs and they're gapped at .35. there is very little oil residue on the sides of the middle 2 coilpacks. the other two are fine.
