from experience what would you guys say would be the best exhaust for the sr that is attainable today? putting into consideration power gain, torque gain, looks, etc etc.

anything titanium. I have JIC. Its loud but light, and very free flowing
the best exhaust is my exhaust. and it sounds the best too.
3 inch downpipe(any brand will due)
project silvia resonated test pipe
A'pex GT Spec catback
WINNER!

keep in mind, a LOT of these exhausts hang really low, like my HKS HiPower did. This became a real issue when I lowered the car to where it is now. The JIC I suggested hangs very tightly against the body, and of course, is really light. Thats why I chose it

i have 2 exhausts here at the shop where the rear section went boom and fell off on the car.. ie.. the muffler where it is attached to pipe went bye bye..
one off of a fd and one off a hachi...
so no its not cause of cracy temps either =) i will post pics if you guys want to see my non bs'ing

Altair - 80mm and pretty quiet. I can get Dart Izumi easier than I can get Altair exhausts. But next time, I'm going custom for the clearance. oh yeah forget resonators, straight pipes all the way.

I use the HKS Hi-Power exhaust every day on my sr, and all I can say is that I love it. It's pretty quiet while driving normal, and it sounds great when driving hard. I've never heard it compared to the ex-mag, but have heard it compared to the monkey magic one (cant think of real name now) and the HKS is quiter.

as long as the piping is the same from the downpipe back...it doesn't really matter what brand you get.
I have 3 inch down pipe, hi-flow cat, resonator, magnaflow exhaust - 3" all the way.
Looks somewhat stockish ('cept for the 3" tip) fairly quiet - cops don't bother me for modified exhaust - power is the same, wife doesn't complain about her ears hurting when she actually rides in my car.

My car is going to be pretty much for racing purposes anyway, but can anybody give a good description of what it sounds like? Being loud isn't an issue, but if it sounds like a raspy Civic muffler or something then I might reconsider.

how's a rainbow made?
Ordinary white light, like that from the sun, is made up of many different colors all of which have a different wavelength. Normally, when we see light from the sun, it appears colorless. However, Isaac Newton discovered in 1666 that when he passed regular sunlight through a prism (basically, a triangular piece of glass), the prism would split the light up into a band of colors. The band of colors is called the spectrum which appears in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. When it rains, the air is filled with raindrops. These raindrops act like a prism. If sunlight passes through the raindrops at the proper angle it is split into its spectrum, which is made up of the colors of the rainbow.
what are clouds?
A cloud is a visible mass of condensed watery vapor floating in the air at some considerable height above the general surface of the ground.

NAH NAH NAH. . . . ALL you's got it wrong, well maybe not on the APEXi N1. As far as the OEM-out-the-door look, but is killin' emissions regulations. . . JTC 500 system by ESPELIR, (Tis What I rock to thee FULLEST) then you may come accross the GP Sports systems, very technically/ functionally elegant, APEXi N! is a bit more aggressive over the GP, but then, it comes to what you really want out from the aestetics of the systems. . .of which are all SR Friendly, and THE ESPELIR IS. . . . 50 state good ! ! ! Peace.

I have a Apexi N1 Evo catback.
The original slant style design exhaust, full stainless, pretty cheap, works good, big piping for turbo and pretty quiet even with a test pipe. I have a sliencer too but I never use it because it is so quiet I can listen to my classical music while on the highway.
Save the big, free flow, loud as hell exhausts for the track not your daily driver.

That depends on model there are 3 models availible:
Full stainless
Silent hiper uses 75mm piping - based on what i read its under 92 dba. haven't ever seen this model in usa. but it can be ordered from hks usa.
hiper 25th aniversary - 85mm piping same as normal hiper, this one i have on my s14 w/ sr its pretty quiet most of the time except at 4500rpm and up. Its a very deep tone and tends to set off everyones alarm.
Mild steel models
Hiper (regular) - i've heard this exhaust on quite a few cars both sr and n/a ka. On n/a it very loud and deep, at low rpm its about the same as mine would be at moderate rpm. But normal hipers have a silencer option unlike the 25th. On sr its the same as my s14's exhaust (same muffler).
Hiper 409 - new model haven't looked it up.

i've seen this exhaust on a friends car it is monster the piping is as big as most exhausts tips.
Honestly the best exhaust to me is RSR ex-magnum since it looks like a stocker. And is relatively quiet, which is important if you live in cal or anywhere else with modification curious cops.

there might be certain cultural stereotypes at play in your favor. my experience in irvine is reversed (least when i went to uci for 4 yrs). I got pulled over once every year or so for exhaust or some useless thing. Once, I got pulled over once for exhaust and the cop tried to get me to admit i was drinking and guilty of a dui @ 9am in the morning tho i was completely sober and had just woken up/ was enroute to uci.

i'm thinking of selling mine, its practically brand new and the exhaust is bad ass.. definitely one of a kind... its been sitting on the car that has not been driven in a year and all together has less then 250 miles on it.. so yeah its new.. mint condition! here is pics.. have silencers with it, and also another pair of extra silencers in a box.. tks! 500 firm. I was told by a board member who i bought it from that its Dart Izumi.. i forgot to add its full stainless, and its weighs absolutely nothing.. fitment is "perfect"

on a ca18 or a 14 motor, fencepipes make your car sound like a crazy ass monster truck:drool: .hehe it just sounds like raw power. on an rb, it still sound like that but in my opinion its not as loud as sr's or ca's. your definetaly gonna want silencers on it unless your at the track. or like an ecv. if thats what you want, then you wont get any better than fencepipes. when your buyin darts your basically paying for the name because they are all pretty much the same. except dart izumi doesnt make full stainless for s13/14 any more just for the s15. you can always get the "bo-bo" brand ones like hot road (thats what im getting) its cheaper and its fullstain.
hope that helped
