i ordered a 1 piece driveshaft and it will be coming in... before i install it... i was wondering if anyone has any reviews or opinions on them?
i read the "for sale" and i see a guy selling one... http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=70705
but he said it vibrates, i thought it only vibrates when the shaft is not smooth..

He should have got it balanced.

i always wondered about 1 piece aluminum driveshafts too.. they are way lighter than the stock 2 piece steel but i wonder how strong it is.. the first i seen was from heavy throttle than phase2 started carrying them.. i think its the same company who makes them..
anyways. does anyone know if the lightweight 1 piece aluminum driveshafts are thicker? how much hp do they withstand? in my quest for the ultimate lightness ill probably be investing in one of these later.. i would go cf, but i hear cf is not that strong although lighter.. the cf brakes in weave patterns so thats nice.. but i dont want cf if it can handle the abuse..

He should have got it balanced.
where would you get it balanced at? does it matter how it's balanced with differents components,or hp? I was thinking about getting one and had the same questions as frpilot too I read of a time where twins turbo took out the supra and shattered thier carbon driveshaft, but they are making close to 1000hp I think.

yes they are much beefier!
yeah i wouldnt get a CF driveshaft for the fear of braking it.. i dont want to go over a rock and braking it, the metal would bend and be unbalanced but i would be able to get home (maybe) but the CF would break

Take it to a mechanic. On steel you can weld weights to the drive shaft. I'd imagine you could on aluminum too but it would be harder. You can also get strap on weights. Also you can change the orientation of the drive shaft and see if that helps.

You balance it by drilling it, just like a flywheel.
I have one that was on my old S14 for well over a year, it resonated a little more but the difference was noticeable at any speed, any rev. Completely worth it.

That's something new. I was tought the ways I listed. Would that have a bad effect on the strength of the aluminum though?

I've only seen them balanced by adding weights too.

Generally the drilling isn't severe, just a small dip into the surface. If it takes more than that than there's something seriously wrong with the build quality. My flywheel was balanced that way, there's two drill marks maybe 1/2" in diameter, 3/16" deep. That's all that was needed.
