yea my fifth gear is gone, and seeing as how much i use it and it being more likely for other gears to go, i am swapping trannies, i got the bellhousing off of the ka, which was a bitch because of the seal on it, and i have my car raised to drop the current tranny...
wish me luck

?

Remove transmission.
Remove bellhousing.
Install bellhousing.

^^^^^^

yup, rocket science. but props to Sparo for taking the time to do it.

oh, ok, well that doesn't make it a theory...... just something you've never done. I mean, i've never done the five lug swap but that doesn't make it a theory. Know what I mean?

ok i finished it yesterday, it wasnt too difficult

for the write up though, it really is pretty basic
-acquire the ka trnsmission you will be swapping the internals with, then break it loose
-in order to do so, look inside the bellhousing, there is a front plate, take out the 5 bolts, then pop the plate out, you will see bearings, make sure not to loose the little metal rin on the lower set of bearings, then there is one clip you will need to remove, it is a C-clip but without the hols, it is on the back of the input shaft...then
-there are 6 bolts in the middle, and there is a plate as well
the seal will be very tight so i used a chisel to break it apart, make sure to chisel the bellhousing half, because that is all you will be taking off
-take out transmission as you would any other time (disconnect all plugs, driveshaft, tranny bolts, and mount
-once you have the tranny out of the car, then do the same as before to break apart the tranny
-make sure you clean out all the dirt you get in there and matal shvaings that are in there
-then i put a silion seal on the gearset side, not too much because you don't want it to ooze everywhere
-the peices are somewhat difficult to get back together, but just work with it and you will get it
-once you have the peices back to gether put the front plate and peices back on
-now the part i didn't think about, the sensor differences, you wil need to change the rear-most sensoron the tranny (just swap them), since i forgot about it, i had to cut the wires, then splice them with the old one
-then put it all back together, don't forget to refill tranny fluid!!!

hope this helps out someone else
-Jeff

how was the drive? how does it differ from the ka tranny? not sure but are the gear ratios the same?

Only 5th gear is different. .759 vs .838.
