OK I have had a 91 240 since 91, but have not started the idea of modification until recently and joined this board.
I have been reading alot of posts that refer to s13 and s14 and K something for engines and models.
Somebody 'splain it to me. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Ok, up until 1995, 240sx's were known as S13's. It is basically the chassis that they were given. 1995 & 1996, they are known as S14's and 1997 & 1998 are known as S14b's (I think, or is it the other way around...anyways, that's not really that important). The difference between the S14's and S14b's are the front ends, and headlights. The tail lights are slightly different, but are shaped the same.
All of them came with KA24 engines. Depending on what years, the KA24 was known as a KA24E (single cam) or a KA24DE (dual cam). I think '91 was the first year that they started making the KA24DE for the 240sx, but I can't remember for sure, someone else please correct this, if it's wrong.
That's the basic information that you were looking for I think. Any questions? Welcome to the forums.

Well, I am a newbie myself, but here is what I can gather.
The first two letters is the typle of block.
The two numbers are displacement in liters.
Then, if it is dual overhead cam (DOHC), it will have a "D."
There is normally and "E" after that to denote electronic injection maybe?
If there is a "T," the you got turbo <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
Exapmles:
The 89-90 US is a KA24E
The 90-98 US is a KA24DE
Add a turbo and it would be a "T" on the end.
The SR20DET is an engine we did not get in the states, SR block, 2L, DOHC, electronic injetion, and turboed.
Hope that helps.

I think I am getting it now. So what about a company like unstable hybrids putting in a RB25DET or a RB26DETT?? Where do these engines come from?

The RB series engines are the famed Skyline engines!!! I wish I could afford to do an RB26DETT swap!!! I think I'll just keep saving until I can afford an entire skyline though (when I'm about to croak...maybe I'll be able to afford one)! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

OK, now for the really dumb question. I got an automatic transmission and not a manual (it was all they had where I was at the time of purchase) Does that stop one from being able to swap to a SR20DET??
Also, where do I go to look for Tower Braces, coilovers, etc to improve handling? I have always felt that mods should be done Handling, Braking, Power, then Speed... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
What are the best handling mods to do?

The automatic transmission will not limit your ability to do the SR swap. In fact, with the complete SR swap you will get a new 5 speed transmission/clutch and so on. You will just need to do the install work for the manual conversion.
*** I'm pretty sure about receiving the clutch, someone else will know for sure though ***
For mods, look to www.240sx.org and check out the specials section. You can go to www.enjukuracing.com, www.injen.com or call your local performance shop.
