99.1 WHFS, the local rock/punk/alternative station changed format today at noon. They changed to latin pop! The well known DJs of the station were unaware of the change until this morning.

2 of the DJs, Big O and Dukes just received their own show, from 6-10 at night, after years of working for HFS, doing all their bitch work and working their asses off just to get a show. They got it for a couple months and now their dreams are destroyed.

And the sports junkies (6-10 in the morning) will probably be shipped back to JFK, which I think is a DC station.. which I dont pick up in Northern MD.

I never thought something so small could hit me so hard, but theres definatly an empty spot in me now. I never realized what music was to me... but I listened to that station every day at work, for 8 hours... 5 days a week. And today was just akwardly quiet. I wasn't motivated to move.

Good people lost their jobs, and now I'm left with no way to hear good music (yes, all the other stations suck that bad). The station was also a vital part to DC/Bmore rock club scene, giving away tickets and putting on shows weekly.

I grew up on HFS. How many years was it a rock station? I'm glad I knew this before I went back home or I would have been pissed when I tuned to Latin. Werid that they did it at noon.

I think a rock band should take over the station and force the DJ to play their demo whilst battling stupid cops, a dickhead station manager and a weird guy in the ventilation system. Then the station can be rock again, they'll go to jail for 6 months and score a recording contract, but not before throwing a kickass concert!

Oh wait. That was Airheads.

I'm still subscribing to the belief that its a joke. a prank to get ratings you might say.

Okay I have a couple of concerns about this...

1. HFS never played any "punk"
2. 94.3 is already a fucking Hispanic music station
3. What will ever happen to the HFStivle?
Yeah it started to suck a few years back after new rock in general started to blow. But it was still a HUGE turnout.

Always a festival my ass.

Well, they did play punk once upon a time before they became just a standard "alternative/modern rock" station. But they played just about EVERYTHING back then. Before my time, this is just what my gf told me.

Welcome to the world of corporate radio. Fuck the loyal listeners, go chase the latest fad/demographic shift for a few more advertising bucks.

I almost want to call El Zol and start making requests for rock songs and get belligerent when they won't play them.

Somthing like this happend to my favorite morning show's DJs. One morning they came in and found out that gay howard stern was taking them over, they lost their jobs right there. It sucks because they were hilarious.
