View Full Version : Steering wheel options

Hi all,
looking for help here. I have a '99 S14a (European version, I'm in Europe) and it has a blown airbag, definitely passenger side, possibly driver's side as well.
If it turns out the drivers airbag is also shot, I'd be looking to replace my wheel with a smaller, thicker one... And I'd like to know what options are there, who makes nice steering wheels that will match our cars' wheel hubs and SRS systems easily. I DO NOT want a steering wheel WITHOUT the SRS, otherwise I wouldn't be asking this as there are plenty.
Also, is it possible to make (or just buy) an extension for the wheel? I'm a tall guy with long legs and I like to sit close to the wheel, but with the S14 it's just not possible because my legs would be too crooked. I'd like to find an extension somewhere, by like 1.5 to 2" or so, but one that will let me keep the SRS in the steering wheel...
Thank you for all your help!
Maciek

Jusdging by the => arrow on the steering wheel I'd say it's momo...
Are momo's airbag compatible?

it looks like a momo wheel. and i would say that yes they are air bag compatible because look at the lacer evo and subaru wrx! they both have momo steering wheels!

Momo made a wheel for the S14 in the JDM market as an option, may have been available in the UK as well, but it's rare and pricey. You can also use an S15 steering wheel.

umm off the top of my head i don't recall what color it was..some sky blue or something...and then standard white for the wheels...
but yeah...to make it easy i removed the hood, doors, trunk, bumpers, and fenders...sprayed those, let them dry separately...taped off the rest of the car and sprayed it...then reassembled...
1 day...
do it...do it...lol..

How do you keep cruise control with an aftermarket steering wheel?
oh my car has been rattle canned (inside and out) multiple times lol
i meant ripping off your color...i think it'd look good on my S14...i plan on having my wheels re-finished w/ black though, and checked for round-ness lol cant think of the word. i think one or 2 might be slightly bent

just take the remote control buttons that were in the steering wheel and what i did was relocate them to the buttom of the hub which is hidden under the steering wheel but still accesible! check out my website and im sure i got a pic of it somewhere!!

1. daily driver...stereo is a necessity..not a luxury...you move to LA and sit in this traffic and then tell me you don't need one..;)
2. carpet..there is no carpet...simply a floor mat to keep the soles of my shoes from melting to the floor...
3. sound deadening...you bring the dry ice and spend 6 hours scraping my floors whenever you feel like it...as stated above i am lazy and there is no point to that...
4. that bride is circa 1982...lol...and i agree..reclinable sucks ass...but i am poor and it was $160 rail included..what can ya do?..

oh sure...whatevs...go for it...last i checked i didn't have a patent on it..;)
if you had an s13 coupe i might have some reservations but it'd be cool to see an s14 with that same color...
just FYI...my wheels were black before they were white and black looked half as good as the white with that particular color blue...

good reasons. You should seriously remove the sound deadning, it took me about 3 saturdays to do, all i had was a hammer and a flat head screwdriver, worked fine, just take your time and do it right, but it is worth it. I saved about 60lbs from my rx7, not to include every interior piece i removed. Also, i like the old school bride seat. I wanted one, just too much $$, so i settled for the ChargeSpeed.

60lbs?..hmmm...interesting...that is quite a lot then...i'll look into it..:)
yeah i like the seat as well...but it needs bigger side bolsters...it lacks support..maybe an older fixed one would be better...
werd, take care..see ya
that seems like alot for just sound deadening...
i'm gonna go for it as well, since my carpet is nasty and i have a leak in the passenger side of the floor :(

awesome, best bet is to put on a good CD, and just go for it, its a pain in the ass, but it really cleans everything up. Just remember that you will prolly have to rattlecan your interior afterwords, cause they actually paint the car over the sound deadning, for example, all the spots i took off of my car are now grey, everything else is red, just fyi :coold:

Yo guys don't jack my thread with the weigth reduction BS I need to know what wheel is that on the pic in the first post (UPPER LEFT not the one in the center) I can't find it on MOMO's site.
Found a JDM S15 Silvia wheel somewhere but the guy says he thinks the hub is bigger and it won't fit... Anybody know anything about that?

You won't find the Momo wheel on their site since it's an OE application. I've found a few before on YahooJP but they usually pull 40,000yn or better, pricey for an OE wheel of any kind.

if you really need to know...

go to interior.
it's part of the Autech Silvia.....probably very limited. btw...i PMed you..i dunno if you got my message.
Well I'm the one who took the pic in the original post, so I guess I should contribute as well.
My knowledge of the wheel is limited, but it was offered as an Nissan optional part for several cars: Skyline, 180sx, Cedric, Silvia, Stagea, etc are some I've seen them in (but that probably isn't the complete list). The one I have came out of a R33 Skyline...and the connectors match up perfectly for my S14 240sx.
Its about stock size, but feels different. I guess 'balanced' comes to mind; seems like the wheel is much easier to turn compared to stock. And I love the red stiching and thick grips heh.
Here are some pics:

And I'll take this opportunity to plug myself and say that I will be selling it soon. :)

maybe it feels different because it is different. Do you know if it compares to the JDM S14 steering wheel with a similar 4 spoke design? Looks like the weight of the wheel might be more balanced due to 4 spokes, compared to the US version with 2 thin spokes and one, fat, ugly 3rd one...haha

I've had both the JDM/EDM S14 4 spoke and MOMO SRS. I can say that the 4 spoke is much better than USDM stock (heck, what isn't), and the Momo one is much better than the 4 spoke. The Momo really stands out in the way it turns and feels....don't really know how to explain it, guess a good analogy would be that the USDM S14 needs to be turned but the Momo loves to be turned. Yeah, it was a lame attempt to sound logical.
Anyway, here's a comparision between the JDM S14 and the Momo wheel. The JDM one already has a thicker handle than the USDM wheel, but you might notice that that leather grips on the Momo are sligtly more thicker (and much more defined on the 3/9 o'clock grips).
