Hi Everyone.... Well I am technically inclined and stuff, but I was reading the FSM and there was a sh!t load of stuff dealing with the valves and how to reseat them and ream them, etc. :bash: Is it necessary to do that? What are the minimal stuff that I need to replace and to remove so that I can replace the headgasket. Anyone in the Bay Area replace the headgasket before? Willing to pay with beer and pizza? Thanks!!!

you don't have to completely disassemble the head to change the head gasket. you only have to take the cams out. make sure you keep track of the bearing caps, cuz they each go in a specific place.
weather or not you should check the valves and all that stuff depends on the condition of the motor. like, is it high mileage, generally thrashed on, has some other problems. things like that.
if you have the time and money, do it. otherwise, if the motor is in good shape, it should be okay.

Thanks drift.... I bought the gasket already, and since I have the motor out, I might as well do it... If I don't need to remove the valves, then I am set and ready to go. Have a quick question though, in the FSM, there are bolts for the cylinder headbolts. I basically turn these 90 degrees at a time in the tighten sequence til I get the right torque? Also do I need to pull the crank pulley and completely remove the cam chain/guides or can I just take off the tensioners and then the cam gears? To remove the head?

you need to torque them down in the correct order. also the fsm designates different torques...you torque one bolt down to the lowest torque and them move to the next bolt. once all of the bolts are at that tirque then raise the torque and repeat the process

you dont need to remove the crank pulley and you just remove the cam gears from the cams and the chain just rests. It wont skip any teeth.
