Do you think that before proposing to someone, you should get the parents blessings? My boyfriend and I were talking about it and he doesnt see the point in asking but I feel it should happen out of respect. What are your opinions?

In every such situation I have seen, the male asks for the blessings... My father asked my granddaddy, my sister's fiancee asked my mom and I have always seen the male ask the bride to be's father (or mother if that wasn't an option) before proposing, even if the plan was made and the ring was purchased...

... personally, I don't see why people bother committing the fool assed acts of getting married and having children

I agree as that is what I did. I thought I was old fashioned, but agreed that it was proper and out of respect as you stated. If he does not see the point, then he does not understand you the way you would like, or so it seems.

It all depends on the family and how traditional they are. Best of luck to you!

its more of a courtesy man to man thing than anything. if he does your father will respect him more and your dad might not give a crap.

either way: can't hurt and it ain't hard.

that's a definite yes. anyways, if he's a good guy he shouldn't have anything to be afraid of.

If it was me who was proposing, I would get the blessings of both parents(if possible) before proposing out of respect. It's not a hard thing to do.
