Intel D865PERL MB, 3.0Ghz 800Mhz FSB CPU, 1024 MB DDR400 (PC3200) RAM, 120GB SATA HD, Nvidia GForce FX 5700 128MB Vid Card, MGE Sidewinder Case, 525 Watt PS, 5 80mm Fans(3 Intake 2 Exhaust). I'm having problems with my ram overheating. It sometimes overheats when its inactive, but mostly happens when I play games. I've set the threshold temp to 55 degrees celsius and it still overheats. I was wondering if anyone with these simular specs has had the same problem. A friend of mine reccomended me to get heatsink, but I'm having trouble deciding on which to get. I was thinking of getting the Thermaltake Active Memory Cooling Kit ( Seen Here (http://www.xoxide.com/theracmemcoo.html) ) but i also have clearance issues because of the round cables. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :wavey:

this is gonna sound ghetto, but its cheap and effective. set a fan at the back of your computer, also what kind of ventilation does your cpu have? if you wanna get really ghetto, drill some holes in the casing!

I have 1 intake fan in the front(behind the grill), 2 intake fans on the side(under the window), and 2 exhaust fans in the back, near the CPU. I have all the fans I need, but the problem is the RAM overheating; the CPU stays cool. The only other probable place to drill another fan hole would be ontop of the case, above the ram, but I'm trying to avoid messing up my case.

Edit: All the fans are running at 2500+ rpm constantly.

Buy a good case like Lian Li or somethin. Im running 9 fans right now :p . this site has some nice cases, www.xoxide.com .If you use your comp under major load like gaming and such i would recommened new proc heatsink and fan, and gpu heatsinks.

I appreciate the recommendation but I'm fine on the CPU. It's the RAM thats overheating, not the CPU or Vid Card. I don't like the Lian Li cases for some reason, they just don't look appealing to me.

buy a pair of heat spreaders. they hardly take up any space and it could be what you need to get your temps down. If that doesnt do it, then buy the fan thingie that you linked and re-route your wires.

how much air you move around doesn't mean dick if you don't get cool air in and bad air out.

post a pic of your case so we can get a better idea of what you're fighting. try screwin with your northbridge stuff. turn up
the voltage.

you've a long way to go before givin up.

What kind of ram are you running? Brand name?

HOLD UP! you say your RAM is overheating??? how do you figure? how are you getting the temps? what do you mean by threshhold temp, that is only something you can set for a CPU and northbridge. i seriously doubt your ram is overheating unless you are o/c to hell and running 2.9v+ on the vdimm~

you might be OCing the ram too much try to turn it down a little.

its all about the ventilation..because remember heat spreads from other areas in the case AKA..CPU, GRAPH CARD, HARDRIVE, etc. Yeah, Lian Li's arent that attractive but Aspire cases are like the x-dreamer 2. I have a black x-dreamer 1 and i love it.

citizen - The Intel MB I have came with an active temp monitor system, it's always "System Zone 2" that is overheating, and System Zone 2 is where the duel channel RAM is located. Threshold Temp is when the alert comes on saying it's too hot.

S14DB - I'm running Kingston RAM

Makoto - I have pics but I don't know how to put pics up. The two exhaust fans on the back are helping alittle. I don't overheat in idle anymore, but I still overheat when I play games for about 30 minutes.

downshift180 - The two exhaust fans are right next to the CPU, and vid card. I checked the temps and the CPU's actually lowered from before I put in the exhaust fans.

Edit: Here is my tower I found on a website. MGE Sidewinder (http://www.xoxide.com/xgbox-mge-sidewinder-blue.html) If you notice, there is 2 extra fan slots on the back of the case, that is where my exhaust fans are located. The two side fans and the one behind the front grill are intakes.

according to intels tps on the board, thermal zone 2 is monitering fan control and is on the opposite side of the board then the ram. so if you arent having any instability problems then just raise the temp threshold till it doesnt set off the alarm anymore.

I raised the temp threshold from 50 to 55 degrees celsius. It doesn't alarm as much anymore, but it still goes off. I think I'm just going to end up buying some copper heatsinks for now just to see if it helps. Thanks for the info/help everyone! You guys RAWK!

raise it up to 60, it doesnt really matter what its set at. you could also try putting a a bga heat sink on iit but it wont make much of a diference.

wtf heatspreaders are a joke, they are just out to make money, your ram shouldnt overheat,

i dont get it..wtf is "thermal zone 2" ..? where's the temp sensor? You're describing it as a general area of the mobo. who cares if it's hot. plus 55 degrees aint shit for your internals. 75 and over is when you should worry. so find out exactly what temperature that thing is monitoring. it could be a faulty sensor too. they arent that accurate anyways.

clean ur system of dust... dust kills the effieciency of everything!!!!!

you shouldn't have any cooling problems.

either you're doing something wrong or there is something wrong with your system.

p.s. setting low safeguards on stuff that runs way hotter is a pretty big clue.

Makoto - I spoke to the guy I bought the MB from and he told me the Intel Active Monitoring System sucks ass and he told me to get rid of it since it reads 3-5 degrees celsius off. I also got heatsinks just for the hell of it (it was buy one get one free, I couldn't resist). As I booted up the system and went to bios, it showed the temp on the ram at 24 degrees celsius. Since I put in the heatsinks and got rid of the monitoring system, I ran a game for an hour and a half to test it and sure enough, no problems.

Thank you everyone for contributing to my problems.
