Haha, well I thought it was interesting to see that on Ebay. The ad was pretty fun as well.
On a sidenote, am I the only person who takes out the ash tray/coin holder to use the space as a cup holder?

just buy a marine surplus one for like $5 shipped. drill it in to the passenger side of your center console, and voila...cupholder that's useful, yet out of the way.
haha, click on view seller's other items, he claims that's the JDM cupholder for like 8 different cars  , from MR2's to porsche's to Z32, that seems like a scam to me, plus the 240sx dashboard isn't vertical it comes down in a slant, so if you where to put a drink in one of those the drink would spill on the dash/stereo :bite: .

Hell yes, I do that shit all the time bro! That's thw only place you can put a drink! Rock on, good idea, but, not paying $70 for it.
My 95 Silvia K's came with something slightly different than this for an OEM cup holder. Same location under the radio, but the holders are totally different. More like a slide out box with a flat plate on the top and two holes punched in it. You can also slide the top plate out of the way and use it for storage.

Whoa, I didnt think there was an actual JDM cupholder...interesting!
As for me, I rock the ash tray out....It holds a pretty big cup/soda/beer.
Someone buy the Ebay one though, and post pics!
Well, with my shifter (not stock) throws are under 2" from center. Given that, when in the forward gates (1,3,5), there is still about 3" between the shift knob and the tray.
It is also worth mentioning that with the slope of the dashboard and the angle of the tray, taller items tend to hit the heater controls. I guess it isn't a perfect solution, but works ok with most stuff.

bro you know you didn't have to spend all that time and money to make a cup holder like that.
you could have just gone to a junkyard and bought one for less than $10, i have seen several cars that have cup holders similar to the one you made.
here's an few examples:
link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63691&item=7945278476&rd=1)

link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63691&item=7945314515&rd=1) i'm not 100% sure, but i think that the 89-93 taurus SHO has a very similar cup holder to this last one, and it fits very well on an S14, it has to be an SHO though, the regular taurus has a different one.

Yeah I didn't do it to be cost effective or at the time pretty, I did it to learn how to work with composites and be functional which I did accomplish. So for me it was a win-win situation.

there is also the stock one for S13's that attaches to the armrest in the console between the seats.

They sell slide out dual cupholders that mount in the DIN location under the radio all day long on Ebay. The JDM cupholder pictured replaces the armrest in the console, but it's a RHD piece and won't fit US cars due to the angle of the lid. US cars had that option through the dealer when they were new, but rarely were they sold.
most of the "slide out cupholders" won't work due to the slant of the dashboard, drinks would be tilted towards the front of the car, i installed a taurus cuphoder only to realize that it wasn't a good idea. and depending on the way the're designed they might get in the way of shifting.

And it looks like this. (http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/junk180sx/14.jpg) (got this from that other awesome thread with the factory brochure scans. )
Look for the picture with the orange juice and the soda can.

The S14 console holds cups just fine for me. But that cup holder looks pretty lame and for that price LOL.

I bought my cupholder from DriftFactory at JGTC/D1. It's cheap, and does its job well. It's adjustable for slant, and therefore is straight up and down. It'll hold a beefy can like UCC coffee, and it's adjustable for width as well, so you can put a Red Bull or other energy drink in there and it'll be fine.
They sell 'em online, by the way.

for small drinks, I too use the ashtray method. But for large drinks I fold down the back seat and sit the cup on the drivetrain tunnel between the console and back seat. The front and rear seats hold it upright, but it has to be a large cup or it will fall over.
