S13 SOHC
Alright guys and gals, here is the problem. Last week it snowed in South Texas (A record since 1890 or some thing like that) I hop in my S13 and attempt to turn on my wipers to get the frost off of my windshield but alas they dont work. My S13 has had tons of electrical problems and gliches before (windshield wipers sometimes randomly come on for one second). So today I attempt to fix the problem. I dont think its my motor because the squirters dont work either. The fuse is fine and dandy, so I take off the columb at the steering wheel. Everything is plugged in and still no windshield wipers. I click my blinker on and notice and my temp guage goes way high and then back to normal, in sync with my blinker (high-low, high-low, high-low) :wtf: . Along with the temp guage going crazy my speedometer raises and lowers and the seatbelt light blink in sync with the blinker. Im assuming that the wiring to the blinker is somehow connected with the guages (duh):ugh:. I have no idea what it could be. Im not the greatest at electronics by any means but any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Also when I click on my parking lights the idle drops alittle. When I put on my headlights the car almost dies, but it tries to stay alive. :wtc:

the last time i experienced this was in an Isuzu Imark. I would signal left and every light in the car would blink too just about.. That or the signal would just stay lit up and i would smell smoke. Turns out a squirrel decided to snack on my wiring harness....
point is, look for critters in your car or signs of them (hair, nests, baby squirrels, etc)
and check your wiring harnesses out. Its not going to be a small job but it makes sense- the signal lights current and the current going to your temp gauge for instance have absolutely nothing to do with each other- unless the 2 respective wires are frayed and touching (or melted together or whatever, you get it?
that just made me think too- given what i know, i would reccommend you start looking in behind your instrument cluster, take it out and look around in there before anything else, cause they share a wiring harness.....Good luck

Well, I went back outside and checked on my ground to the battery as a 240SXforums member told me to to and it fixed the pulsing lights when I tightened the negative :tweak: but my wipers still dont work. This is beyond me..
Im sure its the switch itself, but I wouldnt know how to fix it. Does anyone know where I could pick up a new one? The junkyards down here dont have any 240s for me to jack parts from.

You never heard of a dealership?
Either that or go to FOR SALE Forum and check out the "Parting out S13/14" threads

Well If I wanted to spend 100 something dollars on this part that cost probably less than 5$ to make I might consider a dealership. :-/
Thanks for the help though guys.

 Trust me, Ive thought about that many times, but I've put so much into her. The guy that owned her before me ran her into the ground pretty much, breaking everything and not fixing anything. So shes come a long way, I just need to finnish her.
I need the wiper switch that connects to the steering column. If you could get it for me I will have your babies!

I have had the problem of my wipers turning on as soon as I start the car for about 1 1/2 years now. I've posted several times and no results. Sometimes they are fine then sometimes I try to use them then they dont shut off, or they will go through a sequence like turn on whipe once, then go down, then whipe twice, you get the picture....

read my story about funny problems with lights, you dont mention anything about a prior cluster removal, but give it a try. Maybe is your cluster, try disconnecting the cluster and check your wipers and blinkers, you will still need to have the blinker swithc connected to the harness to have hazard lights during the test....
good luck!
Electrical problems are very rare on Nissans, unless you have external factors (squirrels, chipmunks, humans) that somehow interfere with the wiring at some point.... :bite:
