View Full Version : Rust In The Trunk!!!

I bought my 95 about 7 months ago. Before I bought it I read where someone said to check the trunk for rust. When I did the guy had his golf clubs in the back and I didn't make an attempt to take them out and lift the carpet up. Anyway, I'm kicking my self in the ass now because I took out the carpet to clean it and found rust was taking over my spare tire well. :bash:

ANYWAY, tomorrow I'm going to have the bucket with water and try to trace the leak so I can stop it, but I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and might have some places for me to look. Thanks.

i had the same thing in my S13 when i got it. the notorious spoiler rust was beginning and luckily it was all surface stuff. get some stuff called "rust raider" or another variant to treat and kill that stuff then spray bedliner over it :)

I would take a garden hose and move it along the opening of the trunk. I'm thinking your trunk isn't aligned correctly or the rubber seal isn't seating properly.

My car had the same problem with that stupid spoiler, but mine had rusted right through. Of course, the result was water in my trunk. I ended up cutting out this rust and welding new pieces of metal to fix the problem. Probably would have been easier to buy a rust free Hatch. There is a grommet under you spare, which you can pull out to temporarily to drain water till you find the leak, if you having problems with water building up.
