in the FAQ it says that I will need "manual engine backing plate."
I have asked friends and one said it was what holds the cover to the auto tranny torque converter bolts on. Another friend said that it was the thin gasket like plate that sits between the engine and bellhousing. Can someone please tell me what it really is ;]
I will be putting on a 5spd from a 91. My car is an 89. I have heard from most everyone that I will have no problems, and only some rumor of a bellhousing diffrence and dohc having more sensors.
If I use the dohc 5spd on my sohc auto, what driveshaft should i use? A dohc spd? Do i need the whole drive shaft from differential to tranny, or just from where the shaft slides apart to the tranny?
Also when i removed the auto tranny today, I got all the plugs out the tranny, but there was one that I did not. The wires went straight into the tranny and didnt really have any type of connector. I cut the wires, figure I can just splice them again later. Was this anything important? I cant figure out what it was. I had 1 geared sensor, 1 other cylinder like one, and 1 near the shifter linkage. This last one had no sort of connector on it.
Also, if I am using a 91 tranny, am i going to use the 91 tranny to engine bolts, or a 5 speed sohc engine to tranny bolts, or are they the same?
I have been searching for a bit, but most the articles are made for s14 owners dealing with obd2, and i am sure wiring and maybe some things are diffrent on my 89.
thanks for the help.
