200 miles per gallon?!?!?!

My car gets about 26mpg in mixed driving, which is about 400 miles on a tank.

I'm sure if I risked going down to absolute zero gas, I'd pull 400 miles on a tank. I average 27 -28 mpg on my commute, and have seen 29. This is 89 octane gas on a 30 mile (one way) commute that's 75% highway. Did see an improvement w/ a new air filter. . . Mebbe you oughta check out your engine, or try to keep it below 6k rpms on a regular basis

well if i was "struggling" with 200 mpg, i wouldn't want to relax...i get about 300-350 mpg depending on how much i drive on the freeway...if you mean you're only averaging 20mpg...then 1 mpg off isn't that bad...is this something that has happened recently??? or has it always been a problem???

I usually fill up around 450 kilometers, heavy city traffic on a constant basis. I changed my fuel filter and am that raised me to my current mark, used to be around 400... this is with about 5-10 liters left in the tank on a refil... never hit the fuel light.

Does anyone have any good documents on replacing the fuel filter for a 98 s14 that is (presumably) stock? I am at 60k mi and want to do most of the 60k service work myself to save me $300

unplug fuel pump fuse... run the car till it stalls... unplug fuel filter from hoses... plug new filter (in correct direction)... replace fuel pump fuse.. turn key to ignition, wait for fuel pump to pump vigorously, start car.

you now have a new fuel filter and didn't spill any fuel (hopefully).

I get around 26-30 mpg... 23 if i drive hard. I usually fill up at around 300 miles though. It'll usually be 11 or 12 gallons. That way if I'm not around a gas station for a while I'm not in danger of running out of gas, especially if i'm late going somewhere (and i'm always late) (I've pushed to 400 miles... filled a bit over 14 gallons.)

Ace: I'm kind of brain dead when it comes to cars, but isn't it bad to let Fuel Injected cars run out of gas? Or is that related to something else? I know you're right but I just want to be sure I am doing all the right stuff.

Thanks.

If you go on 240sx.org there in the FAQ, look for FUEL FILTER on the left, choose it and it walks you through. IF I can do it, YOU CANT DO IT!

I avg. about 27mpg hwy and 24-25mpg mixed. I think I'm gonna measure it at my next track day to see just how bad the mpg deteriorates under demanding conditions.

The most I've ever got out of a full tank was about 430 miles, which turned out to be about 31.(something) mpg. Usually I get about 380 miles on a full tank. Right now I'm at 325 miles with the needle a little below the 1/4 tank mark.

Oh yeah, beat this, the most I've gotten on my '90 is 150mi. on a lil' more than 3/4 tank ...although I do about 95% street/city driving, I know it should be a lot more...

I use to smell gas after turning the car off...so I figured I had leaky injectors, but the smell stopped and I still get bad mileage....

I find it very very very hard to make 200 to a tank... I wounder whats up with my 92.... I have a 92 5spd... Think it could be an injection prob?

open up your air box and see if yours is messed up
youll be able to tell if its anything like mine is...
