Hey guys.. dont laugh at me too much... I figured you cant go wrong for $900. 1986 Audi 5000..read: TURBO. 4 door boring looking sedan. inline 5 Cyl (yes, FIVE! lol) All the options.. power evrything. And to my total suprise, this big old 3200 pound box GOES!!! It handles very well, and is great to drive (5 speed). In 2 days I have already raced about 6 cars (all on town roads/minor hyways) and have not lost yet! Heres the dead and wounded list:
92-93 Civic (yah I know BARF),
90 (I think) Toyota carolla.. hahaha stuid punk
97 or so Pontiac grand am GT (suprised the hell out of this guy "yah, that AUDI is still behind you!!" hee hee,
96 Mustang GT (this was a good one.. ended when we both saw the cop and went our seperate ways!
Early 80's V6 Mustang convert (UP a hill in Barrie.. about 20 mins after buying the Audi!!
Anyway, Im not saying its the fastest thing out there, but it is quick... and it has problems to boot! Rear brakes are shot, and the front needs pads... the TPS is screwed so the engine doesnt even run PROPERLY, and there is a minor fuel leak! I got some cool rims with it, and I plan to lower it a little. Maybe a subtle front air dam and a body kit too.. we'll see!

that's good. but beware, audi's built in the 80's SUCK as far as build quality, electronics, transmissions, etc. plus there was that whole "sticking throttle" scandal which cost Audi a lot.

the only audi from the 80's i'd get would be the R-sport Quattro.

mmm, 5 cyl turbo pushing 300 ponies from the factory, yet many were easily tuned to the level of 500 hp.

like this one

ooooh, cool 80's style digital gauges!

welcome to the old Audi club... i've got an '85 4000S Quattro... 5 cylinder engine but no turbo (i plan on rebuilding it someday....) the thing is so beat... I imagine it USED to be fast, but with a bad head gasket and most likely bad rings... it's in no condition to race....

Wow.. quick responce tonite! Um.. no pics yet. Dont even have a scaner or digital cam.. but I have friends.. I'll see what I can do. As for the build quality, there is nothing wrong with it. The main problems ar with the electrical system. THIS was the big problem with Audis of the 80's.. although mine is in decent shape, there are a few... er.. glitches.
As for the sticking throttle problem, here is the REAL deal: It was dicoverd that since the peddles are so close to eachother, ppl were actually hitting the gas and brake AT THE SAME TIME!!! Also, I have a 5 speed.. so if the car accelerated suddenly, all I have to do is put the clutch in.

Just for shits and giggles, heres the specs (from what I can figure anyway) About 165 HP (5500 rpm), 172 foot pounds of torque @ 3000rpm. Fully independant rear suspension, 4 wheel disk brakes (11" rotors up front!! 0-100 K in roughly 7.5-8 seconds (timed with dashboard clock/stopwatch thing), and the blody thing is clocked for 260 KPH!!!!! woohooo!!

'Fun' does not begin to decribe it! It is F&%@ING amazing! It is a big car.. but that makes it that much more of a suprise when it throws you in the seat! Its so plain looking too... total 'sleeper' car. Some kid in his mommys toyota Tercell reved on me last night at a set of lights. I let him jump in front of me off the line and eased the revs up to 2000 in 1st. (thats roughly where the boost comes in) and then BANG just flew past him. The look on his face was priceless. heh heh.
BTW: I just found some more specs on my car: The turbo boost will reach 17psi!! That is STOCK!! Muhahaha... bring it on ricers.
