View Full Version : Apexi S-AFC vs. JWT ECU

This obviously isn't a simple question. What I mean is, which is better for my application. I know the stock 370cc injectors on the SR aren't good for much, so I'll need to upgrade. I'm thinking I need about 555cc injectors to stand the 340hp or so I want at the wheels, I've done the math. So I what to know is, what would be the best idea? Sending my ECU to JWT, have to bum rides for a week, spend $600 or more, but have the assurance that everything will run right, idle fine and work. Or spend $250 or so for an AFC off of ebay, have 1 day of down time for installation, but not have the assurance of knowing that everything will run okay, but it probably should. Thanks.

JWT defintely. Trust me on this one.My bro ran super afc on his eclipse w 550 injectors the car was very hard to tune.On top of it when the temp changes outside u have to change settings. Think of it this way its like tunning a crotch rocket w a carburator.

thank you for your response. Can you please elaborate? In what way was the AFC hard to tune? What aspects of the program were hard to deal with? And especially, how much did the outside temperature affect the car?

The SAFC intercepts the signal going to the ecu, fooling it into thinking you are still running stock injectors.This would work well in a perfect world, but we don't live in a perfect world.When going to a bigger injector, one has to realize that the injector "dead time" will also change since it takes a different amount of time to open a different sized injector.The SAFC will not be able to compensate for this, while JWT ECU will.JWT ECU is plug and play, while with the SAFC you would need to either tune the car on a dyno using a wideband O2 meter or use an EGT and O2 volt meter.There's a good chance that a person not knowing how to tune an SAFC might blow up the motor.With a JWT ecu there's basically no chance of that happening.JWT ecu will compensate for air temp changes, barometric pressure changes(going from a higher elevation to lower or vice versa),The AFC can not do this.You also have to remember that an ECU is a hell of a lot easier to install.No messing around soldering little wires.

look man i'd hate to be mr asshole here (because i'm really not) but the dude just said that afc sucked and you dont want it, it'd be better off running a toaster oven (even then it sounds like it might not work).......i know you want ot know specifics.....i would too if i were in your shoes but with as many problems as he said his bro had i wouldnt even think about it......besides jwt is tested and proven time and time and time again by road tests and consumers alike.....heck they've even said on their site they've been in the nissan performance biz for what? 20 years or something?......basically i'm saying that i'd spend the extra time and money to go with jwt...who knows, chances are you'll end up with a better remaping than the afc....besides why waist the extra $$$ on the afc jsut to bide your time to get the jwt (if that's what youre doing).....well that's my 2 cents....i hope i didnt offend you or anything, i mean it's nothing against you, but i just felt like expressing my opinion, thats all
