For those who have shipped wheels before, how did you go about packaging the wheels? Did you find a big box? or just wrapped it in plastic or something? Also what carrier did you use and how much was it? Just need some ideas as I've never shipped wheels before. Thanks :wiggle:

Use a box that will hold the wheel perfectly. Use bubble wrap and wrap it around the wheel. I also added some popcorn around it, to be safe.

UPS or fedex. Both have online shipping calcs. If with tires just toss them in the boxes(one for each rim). If not wrap the rims with bubble wrap.

a 20x20x12 box will be perfect with cardboard cutouts protecting the front/back side of wheels ...

or just a circular cardboard cutout to protect the front/back side of wheel will be fine.

UPS/Fedex will know its a tire/rim and will take care of it, well at least Fedex does....

we've had a pair of brand new wheels seriosuly bent due to FEDEX's lack of care.
i wish you could see the box, ABSOLUTLY destroyed.
you have to handle a box PRETTY poor in order to bend wheels.
thanks to FEDEX, that was $2000 down the drain. they would not claim responsibility. they will always tell you that you packaged it wrong.

and no, it was not packaged wrong. it had bubbles, cardboard, etc.

fuck fedex.

I have UPS wrap all my shit cause they back the ins claims once you tell them they packed it. I love the 2 part foam crap that they spray in.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll go with UPS packing the wheels since they would back the insurance. One more thing, how much is it usually to have them package and ship four 15 inch wheels within the US? I tried that shipping calculator on their site but got some outrageous price.

I used to work at UPS and see the broken boxes and packing all the time.

If you guys only knew what the packages go through in the system... All I got to say is PACK VERY WELL and use a lot of padding.

[email protected] sent me 4 300ZX wheels with tyres via fedex...no boxes or anything just a label on top of each tyre and luckily they came fine. I never knew you can send them exposed like that. I wouldn't do it with some nice wheels though.

How much did you pay for shipping?

Yes, you can mail a wheel and tire combo, just cut out circle cardboard to protect the front and rear of the wheel face and lips, tape it to the tires, slap a label and send it out.
They will charge you an extra $5-10 for bulk handling onto of what it cost to ship, but at least it will get treated better

good luck

It'll be with tires. I guess I'll just go ask the local UPS shop the pricing when I get back to school. Thanks for the help.

i have shipped wheels before with usps. i went with 4 wheels in one big boz and it was going to cost me like 70$ to ship them, because they were "oversized". the guy told me that if i package them into 2 boxes the oversize charge wont apply, so i did that. i think it cost me 40 or so to ship them in 2 boxes instead of 1 big one.
