Plastic Weld Headlight?

Alright, so about a month ago some guy in a Dodge ram backed up into my kouki and fucked up the front end, I just got my insurence check for $725 and I'm trying to squeeze every penny I can out of it, so I want to plastic weld the broken parts of my headlight using an old broken headlight I have. See picture: Right = Newer broken headlight - Left = Old broken headlight

So my question is, will plastic welding work well enough and be strong enough if I take parts off of my old headlight and put them on my newer headlight? Thanks

it looks like you could replace the lense on the old one with the new lense and it'll be good - i would not want to try to weld the busted back piece back together

Lense? the one on the right is in far better condition than the one on the left, the glass is shattered, the brackets are completely broken off (that connect near the grille) and even more of the housing is broken, the newer one is in 10 times better shape than the older one.

To answer your question and not make idiotic assumptions as other seem to do, yes, plastic welding works fine on headlight housings. I use a soldering gun to melt the pieces together, then go back over with either JB Qwik cold weld or even a good RTV to seal it up. As long as you get the entire area heated well enough to bond there's no reason to think it won't last. I've broken corner lamp tabs before and done this with no ill effects.

If you know how to use fiberglass, I would use it instead of the JB weld
Or join/fill the gap by melting plastic (beware the fumes)

jb weld works decently(yes on plastic.... then silicon it up.

Nosterdomis, thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind if things don't work out with my headlight. I just soldered the pieces I could get back together and used some other plastic to fill the gap... It looks pretty good... At least for a ghetto fix and compared to before:

Anyone know where I can pick up some JB Quick Cold Weld? Aubuchon or any hardware store?
