I drive mainly on rough roads: bumps, pot holes, riples, cracks and you name it. I'm looking for a softly sprung set of coilovers or strut and spring combo that can handle the abuse. I've been running stock springs on gr2s for a while now and its handles the roads alright but its just too wallowy when hitting bumps mid-corner and too much roll. For reference I have a friend with agx + ground control, i think the spring rates were around 8kg front 6kg rear and it was sprung too stiffly for the local roads, car just bounced around and got air.
So criteria are:
1. not too stiff / made for crap ass roads
2. not too low (need to retain clearance and travel)
3. beefy as fuck (i've bent stock struts)
4. under $1500
5. preferably some form of support in the usa

The tires you run will have alot to do with this, so I wouldn't overlook trying different types or run different pressures.

If you are really serious about running on bumpy roads, low profile tires are not going to offer you a smooth ride compared to higher profile tires, a sway bar would let the car lean less and still let you run stock springs, and you should find a strut which you can dampen the road with. Lighter weight wheels and tires will also help the suspension cope.
But bending stock struts? I broke a strut once, but it was the rubber portion at the top of the strut tower and it required 60mph into a 4 inch hole. It bent the wheel as well.
What kind of driving are you doing? Obviously not driving to work and back.

i bent the rear stut piston on an off camber s turn then dips down hard in the middle. you cant brake hard into since it off camber and tight so you still got a decent amount weight still over the rear outer wheel, then it dips down a few feet, feels like you're riding a roller coaster. but, at the bottom your suspension just goes crunch~
i dont care about smoothness or comfort. just that the tire is in contact in the road most of the time. I'm looking for something stiff enough to reduce slop, roll and quicken weight xfer. But not so stiff when it hits bumps it loses contact with the road.
right now im leaning towards something like koni + whiteline springs + tein upper mounts
and before anyone says anything about reducing slop: i already have t/c rods, tie rods, flca bushings steering rack bushing. ruca, rear toe, subframe spacers, lsd (sort of lol, its dead now)
