Hey, welcome to Zilvia.net! I'm sure someone will give you more info on this shortly but they are the same car except for different engines. The silvia comes with a 2litre turbo engine (sr20det) and the 240sx comes with a 2.4litre n/a engine(ka24e[SOHC]/ka24de[DOHC]). The silvia is also called a 200sx in austraila and europe which is kindof confuseing since the US has a 200sx that is a standard sedan.

Dynamic Stability Control (What's that BMW "DSC" acronym stand for again?) : I think the keyword was "exterior". <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':thumbsup:'>

From the outside (S13,) the only difference I can discern is that the Silvia has a flat "nose" front bumper with fixed headlights, whereas the US spec 240sx has the popup front bumper (from the Japanese 180sx.) -- apparently the reason for this is because the 180sx bumpers pass the 5mph crash test, while the silvia (s13) bumpers don't. (didn't)

the Silvia also only comes in a coupe form, the 180sx is actually the hatch/fast-back. So what we have in the US (240sx) is actually a 180sx or a silvia w/ 180sx nose (one-via) depending on if you got the Hatchback or coupe version.

As for S14 and S14a - they're the same from the outside...
and for the S15, well, we don't have an S15 here. D'oh.

AD!

actually the s14 and s14a are only different on the outside. other than the obvious differences (LHD), the silvia had either CA18DE or SR20DE in turbo or N/A applications, depending on trim level. the US s13 240SX coupe (89-93) was either equipped with KA24E or KA24DE, using the 180sx front end (180sx one an s13 is called "one-via" or "one-beer" in japan). also in 1994 we got a factory convertable one-via, which was never offered in japan (they were all custom, why the US received one for one year nobody knows any good reason for). they just assumed the US market would prefer the popups to the flat lights.

and you never know, we might get the s16 in 2003-2004, but i doubt that, since it would encroach upon the 350z and GT-R sales (GT-R also comes out 2003-2004)

For me the fastback is the coolest. I love the lines on the car and all that. Just a matter of preference it makes me a 180 fan but I do want to put the silvia front on so I have the best of all worlds then I guess you would be able to say...simply put
silvia=coupe
180=fastback
