Ok, I read that the RX-8 will be about $70,000 when it hits our shores in 2003!!! Isn't that just a little bit too expensive? I mean sure, it's a nice car, but for something that only has 250 HP, it sure as hell isn't worth the price IMO. Personally, I think if that price remains that high, it is going to flop big time. I hope that the information that I got is wrong because if it isn't, then Mazda's new flagship car is going to sink.

70k is wayyyy to much for it...
It will get slaughtered by the 350z, Dual Note and 2k2/2k4 NSX, and toyota's FXS Concept (when its finallly made)
It should retain the rx7 price of about 40,000
Sure, the rx8 is nice...but not that nice.
the engine is really good tho...Reiness.
If someone were to swap that engine into a 3rd gen fd rx7...it would FLY LIKE A BASTARD ON CRACK.
actually $30,000 check out for yourself http://www.roadandtrack.com/RoadAnd....p1.html (http://www.roadandtrack.com/RoadAndTrack/features/bts/0402_bts_mazda_rx-8_p1.html)

Yeah, the engine is amazing. If you turboed that, there would be no touching you! But still, that price tag is entirely too much. I mean one, it's a Mazda, and the US market does not look at them as being high priced automobiles, which is why the RX-7 flopped here (though it shouldn't have...such a SWEEEEET car). It's a bad move by them if they price it that high. That's ok though, I'd rather get a '93-'96 FD anyways.

That was for the Skyline when it comes to the US. I guess I didnt' notice that when they had $(numbers), they were talking about Australian dollars though. Haha, I guess I was wrong about the $70K! Woops, I feel much better (and much more stupid) now! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

The RX8 should be an excellent car. The rotary in the 8 shouldnt suffer from nearly as many problems as the 7's.

its gonna be less than 35k in us dollars and it gonna have very slim reliability problems or so they said...but i wont belive it till a while when they rack up some miles on them

I am not really a fan of how it looks but this 'Renesis" engine seems to be very good. I think a swap into one of the older 7s would be very nice though.

LOL... its funny how everyone compares it to the 7 automatically. It's not designed to be an exotic sportscar like the 7 was! Thats why it has 4 seats and is non-turbo! The 8 has an even better suspension setup than the 7 and will be 1000% more reliable. 0-60 in 6.0 seconds from a non turbo 1.3 liter car, cmon give it a break. If it sells enough, its rumored Mazda will build a 7 based off of the RX-8 platform. Then you can draw comparisons.

Of course we're going to compare it to the RX-7. They dubbed it the RX-8, therefore they are comparing it to the 7 themselves! That would be like saying you can't compare an S13 and an S14 because they are two different generations, with different styling. The RX-8 was meant to take after the RX-7 end of story. Whether or not it was designed as a sports car or not (I wouldn't go so far as to say exotic, a Ferarri is an exotic, not an RX-7), makes no difference, everyone will compare it to the 3rd Gen Rex regardless.
If Mazda didn't want it to be compared, then they shouldn't have given it the name that they did. Because of that name, I am dissappointed with the product they are putting out, for the reason that it is not the car that the FD was.

There's reasons why they don't make the 7 anymore - in short, little sales. So why would they make a whole new car like the 7 - 2 seater, turbo, etc - if it wouldn't sell? The 8 definately follows the heritage of the RX series. A 240 was always a 240. A RX-7 is different than an RX-8 just like its different from all the other RXs. I know it's impossible not to compare it to the 7, but its a great car in its own right. I wish everyone would cut it a break just because of the 7s legacy. And yes I still believe the 7 was an exotic.

Well, I think they're messing up making this a 4 seater. Granted the 7 didn't do well here so they cancelled production, but how many years has it been since that happened? Long enough for them to give it another go if you ask me.
Mazda is starting to get a bigger name in the states now, they're not just seen as econoboxes anymore. I think people would be more open to a new RX-7 style car, but I don't see where this RX-8 is going to fit in... A lot of sports car enthusiasts will pass it up right away just because of the 4 doors. I know I think they make it look like crap <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sigh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I heard that they're supposed to be making a turbo charged version.

The Mazda RX-8 is going to be roughly $26,000 US for the N/A.... no rough price on the turbo version yet (if they decide to release them). The N/A is pushing 250hp, while the turbo is supposed to be in the range of 375. WOW! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Unfortunately people will still be bringing up the "no torque" issue even though the car will be 0-60 in low 4s. The N/A has about 130 so how much could the turbo have? 200-250 torque with 375 hp?

rx7 had four seats, in japan after a certain year, 98 i think. could you imagine sitting back there? ever seen a large human sit in a TWO seater rx7?

seeing as how i have worked for the second largest mazda dealer in the country for the past two years i'll step in......
-the RX-8 base price will be under 30k (just like the Z)
-the RX-8 has received an overwhelming positive response, our dealership started taking deposits for them last summer, i think we have about 4 of them already sold.
-despite it's lack of a B-pillar, the structure is stiffer than that of the 3rd gen 7 (as stated in recent R&T)
-there aren't plans for a turbo version of the 8 because a new 7 is in the works
-the rx-8 represents the styling the rest of the mazda family will have in the future, just look at the new 6
-mazda is by no means the bottom rung of import cars anymore, the new 6 is a great car (on paper at least), while i personally don't like the styling, you have to respect the 8 for it's individuality and it's performance, the protoge/P5/MP3 is a fun car to drive despite it's lack of power, and the miata tends to be one of the only true drivers cars left on the market

i think the rx-8 is the prettiest car from japan as of yet. IMO no other import car looks better. as for the 4 seats the market of the rx-8 are for people who want a sports car but dont want to give up the conveniece of carrying the rest of their family. its supposed to compete with the 350z and they have said nothing of a turbo AFAIK. gonna be a great car though. 0-60 6.0sec not bad <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'>
