Crankshaft position sensor?

Anyone changed the crankshaft position sensor? I finally got around to hooking my check engine light back up (previous owner pulled to bulb before he sold it to me) and put in my 5speed ecu. Been driving around for about 4 mo. on the auto ecu after my 5sp swap. Well anyway the car is throwing code 82 crankshaft position sensor. And I was wondering if anyone knows where it is located in the factory service manual it looks very difficult to get to it seems to be on top of the bell housing right up against the firewall. Anyone how has changed it just wondering if they went from the top or bottom and what had to be removed to get to it. thanks!

Easier to get to it from the top, but you have to disconnect the harness from below, which means you'll probably have to jack up the car to get to the harness. Nothing else needs to be removed. If I recall correctly we used a small rachet with a 8mm socket and a wobbly extension. Easy to do, just a pain in the ass.

i broke my sensor off wen i did my clutch change, and iv driven like that for about 2000 miles now. wat could happen if i keep driving withought the sensor?

the sensor is not important for major engine functions. it is used to determine if there are miss fires and correct them. So I am not even that worried about fixing it just thought I should check it out. Is it bolted to the block or the trans bellhousing?

Bolted to the tranny bellhousing.

Unfortunately a broken Crankshaft Position Sensor will kick a Diagnostic Trouble Code which can cause your vehicle to fail the Bi-Annual California Smog Check. All depends on how the Smog Check Technician wants to handle it. He can clear the code and run the test, OR he can fail you for the OBD II DTC code.

Best bet is just to find another C.P.S. and fix the problem now while you can.

Anyhow, hope this helps..

i forgot, but i used the scanner to find out wat that wire did, and actually i think that was the plug i couldnt find were to plug in when putting the trans back in. or i mean that is the plug.
