Comming from a Toyota backround into the world of Nissan is confusing enough.... but maybe you can answer this simple question...
What are these codes your using refering to the engines?
KA and SR20DET and what not? break them down for me
and what are the differences between S15, S14 and all that?
Any help will be apreciated alot ! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

SR20DET
SR= Block 20=2.0L D= DOHC E= Electronic Ignition T= Turbo
Goes the same with all nissan engines as far as I know.

Differences between s13's, s14's, and s15's vary greatly...
with the s15 being current, it has a 2.0L sr20det or sr20de Engine, and comes in 3 different lines.
Spec R Base (R has Turbo)
Spec S Base (S has N/A)
Spec R L series
Spec S L Series
Spec R S Series (i think)
Spec S S Series (i think)
and the Spec R / Spec S Aero
the differences are too many to list...its like listing ALL the differences between a mk2, 3, and 4 supra...
A lot of difference there.

Chassis : Year : US engine
S13 : 1989-1990 : US had SOHC KA24E
MC S13: 1991-1994 : US had DOHC KA24DE
(1991 had "hot cams")
S14 : 1995-1996 : US had DOHC KA24DE (with slight changes)
MC S14 : 1997 - 1998 : Same as S14
The S13 in the US came in 3 formats: coupe, fastback, and convertible.
About engine codes: only one engine ever differed from Nissan's engine designation: the FJ20ET was a DOHC engine, but for some reason was labeled like an SOHC.

MC basically is equivalent to Kouki designations in japan. go to freshalloy.com and theres a nissan model matrix and engine series guide that should help to explain some things, but the way they describe the V in the engine series saying it indicates VVT, which isnt neccessarily right all the itme

1. Something I recently found out, apparently the 92's had the same cams as the '91.
2. The S20 was another engine that wasn't designated "properly" for its valve train, I bet there were probably others from that time period as well.
