u can get em on ebay for under 100.. as far as specs go, Im not to sure since I never got on myself, tho I will eventually get one someday. I just know that some media works on stand alone dvd players, and some dont from what a friend told me a year back.

got a plextor 708 last year for some outrageous price at bestbuy. works great though.
the trouble with dual layer burners is finding the blank media to use with them.

My dual layer works perfectly fine. Whats wrong with it? I use both dvd-r/ dvd+r discs no problem.

I bought a DVD-R from newegg.com not long ago for like $80 and it F*in rocks. Combine it with Suprnova.org for an unstoppable combination!!!

lite-on = cheap and reliable with the best firmware updates. i had a lite-on, upgraded to a plextor (mercedez of burners) and sold the plextor to go back to lite-on. LITE-ON = BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK.

this is a good site for more info.

www.newegg.com
You can find nice DVD burners there all day for under $100.
My Pioneer DVR108 was ~$93 when I bought it... last I saw it was ~$80
It does dual layer and can record DVD up to 16X (with proper media).
I use cheapo Ridata 8x media and regularly burn at 12X.
