View Full Version : Stupid Ticket

I just got a moving violation for not using the left turn signal while switching lanes (WTF). Then the officer also gave me a fix-it for not having the front license plate on (WTF). Okay, I admit I was following a long trail of racers at 2 in the morning. There was a gap between my car and the car behind me so I guess the officer just found it convenient to pick on me. He just popped out of nowhere. Shiiieeet...  >:\ Man... The first ticket I ever got (couple years ago) was for a right turn at a stop light without stopping first (WTF). And now, left turn without signaling (WTF). Geez... All right. Done venting.  :]

Anyone know of a good inexpensive online traffic school?

Believe it or not, it IS an offense to switch lanes without signaling. Also, it IS an offense to turn right on a red light without coming to a complete stop.... the cop was doing his job <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Actually, I think in this case, the cop was filling his quota. For one thing, a front license plate is optional. Also, cops almost never pay attention to people using turn signals (though I think they should, because not using it is just being lazy). As for not stopping completely at the red light, that's definately something people are pulled over for fairly often. It is a BS reason to pull someone over at 2 in the morning when there is obviously no-one coming, but if it fills their quota late at night, they will generally pull you over for it.

IIRC, you can't use an online school...part of the punishment is GOING to the class. &nbsp; And BTW, you can't take it before your cort date.

The quota thing is actually a myth. &nbsp;I have a friend in the CHP (Yup, he's a CHIP w/o the bike), and one in the Fairfax County Police Department (where I live). &nbsp; They both say it's a myth.

I can tell you right now that it's not a myth. At least not around here. Some police forces have stopped the quota because of people pulling people over for shitty reasons, but a lot of places still have it.

You might be lucky, and live in a place where they've gotten rid of it.

Hrm...when I went to court (in VA too) they said you couldn't take the online class. &nbsp; They would only accpet a certificate from the class held in the actual cort room on that took place after my court date and lasted the entire saturday. &nbsp; Its possable, however unlikely, that I misunderstood them. &nbsp; My class was $75 BTW.

Some cities do allow you to take &nbsp;online traffic schools. It all depends on the city.
Danio... where'd you get your ticket? I'm pretty sure Fremont doesn't allow you to take it online, but I think San Jose does. At least you didn't get a $77 ticket for having clear side markers. The cop told me it was a fix-it ticket and my dumba$$ didn't look at the ticket itself and the cop didn't check the box that said correctable. So it's not even a fix-it ticket, just basically a fine. WTF is up with that? Everybody make sure you look at the "fix-it" ticket before you sign it and make sure it's checked correctable. &nbsp;:!:

I believe that you have to be 18 to do the online traffic school. I did it and only took a couple of hours as opposed to a satruday in school.

about the quota thing:
couple years ago, for goverment class, the teacher invited some officers to come in to speak to us about some random stuff. &nbsp;and we can ask whatever questions we have. &nbsp;someone asked about the quota thing, they said, there isn't any quota, and then we asked, if there are unofficial quotas, they said there are "unofficial" quotas.

for example, if every cop has given out 10 tickets in the past month, and only 1 cop gave like...2? that cop can be transfered to elsewhere. &nbsp;very "unofficial" so...

that's just TORRANCE, in LA county, i don't know about elsewhere...

Fremont does allow you to take it online, I've done it before. You just need to take the test at the test site, but the class can be taken online. I found out that for San Jose, you need the traffic court's permission to take the class online.

Okay just curious... Can someone tell me what the difference is between a misdemeanor and an infraction?

And also, how do I find an officer to sign off the fix-it part of my ticket (for the front license plate)? They're usually at places where there's no parking/stopping, or they're moving on the road. Do I just turn on the hazards to get their attention or wut?
