ok my hatch is getting a cage put in next week, it's gonna be a fully custom welded in full cage but i'm unsure how to finish it? i have a 90 hatch that is the factory charcoal color but i don't wanna paint the cage black of body color becuase i think it will get lost in the car and with all the work going into the cage i want to show it off, so i was thinking about doing it silver, anyone have any cool ideas?

I was going to suggest silver, and then I saw you were already thinking of it. Good choice. Gold might look pretty good too.

yeah i was thinking gold or bronze, my friend did his cage bronze in his miata and it looks pretty sick, but if i do gold or bronze i'm limited to those choices for wheels, which might not be bad

My friends cage is white to match her car. White looks sexy.

why does it matter what color it is? being that its a fully custom weld-in cage?

show car?

If it's a show car, wrap it in carbon fiber. If it's a track car I wouldn't care, most of it would be padded anyways.

exactly...who cares what it looks likes...did you install it for fashion or for function?...as stated above it should be padded anyway in the places it will be most visible...showing off a roll cage sounds like a cry for attention...paint is some non flashy black or grey or whatever to prevent it from rusting and call it a day...

XXX4life
12-07-2004, 02:25 PM
well it's not a show car it's gonna be driven hard, and it has to be painted or else it will get rusty and look like poo :( and yes i want the cage to be noticeable :) i want people to see it and be like DAMN! :) the cage is gonna be for both fashion and function is that so wrong?

I powdercoated mine in a high mettalic silver to contrast the blue in my car.

You can see the cage very easily from outside the car in this color. Cops love to use it as a pull-over excuse....

nope, i think it was just the comment about matching the wheels and such that made me wonder...

a silver would look nice...:)

Paint it pink and call it a night.

The cage is on the inside, the wheels are on the outside... I personally don't think it would be a problem.
Or get some bronze wheels with a polished lip so you have both.

Or paint it black so you don't get hassled by the cops like Bobby...

why would i get hassled by the cops? is it not legal to have a roll cage?

I doubt it is illegal, it's just that it will make the cop think you are some punk kid who uses public roads for his own personal racetrack.

btw - I think bronze with bronze wheels would look sexy with a grey car.

Get it clearcoated to show off the welds and of course, the fact that it's not constructed out of pvc piping.

If your car is black and the interior is black, any color will work. Just make it match with any interior crap you have. What color will your harness be? What color will your seats be, what is the official color of your wheels. Ask a girl they are the best at matching if you can't figure it out yourself.

WTF? Paint it black and get enough padding to cover most of it. If you are doing it for show,
don't do it at all. BTW, roll cage on the street is both stupid and dangerous.

its safe and smart

they actually might be illegal for use on the street..CHP could tell you though..i know the risk of hitting your head could be the reason...

Ok then, when you smash your head on it, it will split
open like a damn watermelon... unless you are willing
to wear your helmet when you drive.
Being a good driver doesn't mean that some crazy person
in an SUV won't smash into you.
Some food for thought.

if u want it for show , what about blaze orange.. very bright..

i would do it in flat powercoated black w/ foam because u could hurt urself.. it really depends on what kinda of roll cage pics would help.

if all fails sport the pink =)

Where a harness, or even a regular seatbelt. If I get to the point of hitting my a-pillar then I would be f*cked if I didn't have a cage. Padding will help a little in padding that blow, but regardless I have a harness and I won't be going very far.

I do a lot of spirited driving, the more I do it the faster I want to go the faster I want to go the greater my chances of crashing are. My friend had a cage in his car crashed it and it saved his life. Don't start with this well you should stick to the track, well I do go to as many track days as I can, but it is not sufficient enough, or as fun.

speaking only for california...it is also illegal to drive on city streets with a harness...just FYI...

Unless it's the Scrhoth Rallye 4 which is street legal.

I got a cage and a harness. Been pulled over many times, been questioned and hassled but never cited for the harness. They never even MENTION the roll cage. I would get the cage painted the same color as the cusco ones, cusco blue or the hks purple color like this oil cap

Your Buddy Club seat + harness won't save you from hitting your head dude, because it's still possible.

you should wear your helmet in the mountains . Also in a crash, you'd be surprised how far your body can get thrown around even if your harness is strapped down and you're in a racing seat.

Neon pink for the cage, and use like really light pink on the pads, that would be TIGHT!

well i haven't decided if my cage is gonna have overheard bars yet, right now i'm planning on a 4 point plus low slung door bars to make it a 6 point, i want the cage for added stiffest i'm not sure if i wanna go all out and do over head bars, it would look cool but i don't know if it's practical

IMO for street use get a 5 point in the back (x bar in the rear) and then door bars

Do it, if you track the crap out of your car and/or plan to run in Formula D.

Like I said when it gets to that point where I get thrown out of my seat, I am f*cked regardless, I atleast won't be crushed. Hitting my A-pillar isn't going to save my head much more than a cage with padding on it.

Paint it white. White gives you maximum visibility in low-light conditions. That's why they're always white on rally cars. Plus, the white will make it really obvious, and therefore less likely for you to hit your head climbing into the car. :D

i say be cheap and cover it with random stickers. from any and all types of companies or sayings. Primarily I would coat it tho for rust and deterioration purposes. Other than that, be cheap and cover it with stickers. I've done that with my shitty brown dash since I was too lazy to take it out and paint it black.Currently working on sheet-metal door panel to add more stickers too....

no white, i think that would just look tacky since the car is dark. so far i'm feeling bronze or silver, but i kinda think some crazy would be cool like purple or something? who know we will see

oh and it's not a track car, it's my daily that i might track once a year

then why get the cage?..for what purpose?

he already said he likes the way they look..

If you don't plan on tracking the car, don't bring any bars anywhere near any part of your body that could flail around and hit them. No door bars, or a-pillar bars necessary.

..and I have seen pictures of a steering wheel that was bent forward from someone hitting their head on it in a head on crash WHILE wearing a harness. Just goes to show how much the human body will stretch in a high G impact. So think safety.

and you should NEVER wear a helmet on the street. They severely limit visibility. On a race track everyone goes the same direction.. (most of the time.. hehe)

ive never had problems with cages/harness's. Personally i like em black...who cares if people see them? They dont make you go faster, and yes it does hurt to hit your head on the top rails.

But the majority of my cars have/will have rollcages, The firebird is getting a full cage..but thats becuse its gonna be the dragger...and the e.t. range im shooting for will need one.

well the cage is getting done for free, i'm doing it in trade for a website, so why not get it? it will stiffen the car and look awesome :) i don't see how hitting my head on the cage bar is any worse than hitting my head on the windshield or the a pillar?

s13Dr1ft
12-08-2004, 02:15 PM
that would hurt too..But were talking about metal on skull.

Id get it done if it was free too...in your case since you want it to be noticed go with the silver. i dont really know what to tell ya since its your car and you have specific taste.
