With the engine running, nice and warm, spray it with Gunk degreaser, when using high pressure, keep engine running and do not use high pressure on critical areas such as alternator, distributor, etc. then rinse (using same method...) and keep engine running until is dry. Turn engine off and finish with detailing other areas with small hands (maybe you want to get the girlfriend involve....)and toothbrush or baby bottle brush.....I have used this method since 1989 without any problems. Two main issues, always do the high pressure wash with engine running and dont use high pressure on critical parts. You might have to do this a couple times depending of how dirty your engine is..... :D

how bout for cleaning underneath the engine? I've had a bad front crank seal for 6 months that is finally getting replaced. Problem is, theres like a quarter inch worth of oil/grime on the ENTIRE undercarriage. Suspension, subframe, tranny, engine, alternator, .... everything.
I was just gonna throw it up on a lift at work, and hit it up with some all purpose cleaner, and scrub away.

What I used yesterday was just your simple carpet cleaner sprayed it on for 20secs then used a pressure washer on it.. came out clean .. if you want something that will get all the gook off use sometime of amino acid and pressure wash it but don't spray it on your window's cause it's just like acid rain.

My friend worked at a dodge dealer cleaning cars for 2 years. Their process was:
1. Soak entire engine bay in degreaser (while warm, not Hot), let stand for 3-5min.
2. Thouroughly rinse entire engine bay with pressure washer. (industrial.. hardcore, kind..)
They covered nothing, and sprayed everything, and never had any problems.

A note: some degreasers are hell on aluminum parts and will give them that nasty chalky whitish appearance. If your aluminum parts are already there, this can be polished out, but it takes some elbow grease. Whatever you do, make sure you use a citrus-based degreaser, not a petroleum-based one.
It's also a good idea to avoid using degreaser on the strut towers and other painted body parts unless they're really, really dirty. They should be washed and waxed just like the outside painted parts.

You just answer your own question......but spray it with Gunk while still warm and let it sit for a little bit and then let the scraping begin.... :boink:
