Ok i am debateing on wheather to put to 15's or 2-4 12's in my trunk with my custom box.I am asking for suggestions on what you would do if you were adding subs to your car.You may not want to add subs but if you were to what would you do?I am not worried about weight because i am not going to be racing on tracks or anything. This is for a 1997 nissan 240sx base model.

thanks

I would go with 12's. If you give them lots of power they will hit. It really depends, are you a bass junky or do ya just like your music loud and clean. If you are doing a custom install 12 sometimes are easier to work with becaue of theri size. All just my opinions. My brother is running 2 12' Infinity perfects and man they pound.

there's no need for 15's in my opinion. I've got 2 10s, and i think they work perfectly. 12's would be enough IMHO.

I would go with 12's, that's what I had in my last car, for my next stereo I am going to do 10's.

I would go with the 12's. The 15's give it way too much bass and you won't get the clarity of the 12's. BTW...How else are you going to blast Classical music on 15s? everything would be to bassy

Once you go over 12 inches the bass gets "muddy" and loses a lot of its clarity.

I'm doing 2 10's in my 95. Install will be done next week sometime so I'll post pics and let you guys know how it sounds. As far as your setup, definately wouldn't go with 15's. I had one 12 in my old car and it pounded, gave me plenty of bass.

The only thing 15's are good for is that bass that you can feel in your chest from a block away..but you cannot hear it. (does that make sense?)

12's are good for actually hearing the music.

actually it all depends which 15 inch sub you have and how good the box is and size. I've heard some 15 inch sealed subs sound incrediably CLEAN. Let us know what kinda amp you;re running.

btw...i'm running 2 12's sealed in s14.

It depends on what kind of music you listen to actually. If you listen to stuff like drum&bass, then 10's are your best bet because they give the best reaction time. The cones are smaller, therefore you have tighter, more reactive bass. The slower the beat is, the bigger the sub can be without it distorting it. If you aren't going for clarity though, then go for the 15's, they will knock your teeth out. I'm going with dual 10's myself, if you get the right setup, not only will they react better, but they can hit just as hard as the bigger boys (sometimes, as I prooved to my friend, even harder). Oh yeah, and the amp does matter too, you don't want to under-power them, it will make the amp work too hard, and then it will sound horrible.

GET 15"s..... You'll move more air and get a higher SPL which is was I assume you want if you wanna crack windows
About the muddy sound, all you have to do is build a sealed box to the minimum volume specs and make sure you pack in the fiber batting in the box (it's cheeper to get the batting at a fabric store, eventhough the women in there look at you funny because most men don't go into fabric stores )

One more think, make sure you set your amp to get the max signal to noise ratio and use the low pass filters to get a clean sound.

What sub you get matters infinately more than what size it is. There are 15 inch subs that sound clean, and 12 inch subs that sound sloppy.

Go for 12's.... 15's are a pain in the ass to fit anywhere, plus you'll end up getting a better sound for quite a bit less money. I'd suggest buying a capacitor, it's a great investment for any car stereo.

Either competition subs (see your local car audio dealership for makes) or Kicker Solo Barics should do just fine!

I would go with good 12" subs in a sealed enclosure... You can make them sound really tight and loud. Just respect the manufacturers suggested volume for the box: VERY important. If you don't, it'll sound sloppy, for sure.

Everything is in the install... 15" can sound tight, as long as you respect what the manufacturer recommends.
