ok well i got intake and rebuilt motor with port and polished head, headers high flow cat and this weekend goin to get 2 1/2 in custom exhaust, well tonight i was bored and drove arounf for a lil bit. for some reason decided to race a v6 mustang, well i kept up with it nose to nose but just couldnt pass him. i know what people are goin to say go turbo well i have ka24det on my 91 but i like the 89 and want more hp and torque w/o turbo, at least for right now. i was thinking of some nos but everyone has it and its only temporary. but if i did that howlong would everyone recomend i break in the motor before doin so and if its even worth it. i dunno how the single cam works with the sohc but could i take one cam from my spare 91 motor and put in sohc since its the most aggressive of all the years, if possible which one thanx

You know I'm sitting here trying to help you but all I really want to say is that, your question reeks of bullshit. If you had all that done to your car then there is no reason you couldn't beet a V6 mustang. The other thing I want to say is "SEARCH". There has got to be so much information for moding a sohc here it should make your head spin, and you have to ask. I have just one question for you. What size rims do you have on the car?

BWAHAHA!
You have a lot of learning to do. The Port and Polish was a $700 worthless lesson for NA people.

In a 4cyl NA engine, torque is not how you go faster. creating more top end hp is. The only way you'll get more torque out of that engine is to bore and stroke it.

The easiest thing to do would be to get a hotter cam which will make the car moake more power in the top end. PDM-racing.com, or JWT I believe both have SOHC cams. The DE cam won't work. The DE and E cams actuate a different number of valves so there are more lobes on an E cam.

Also some form of ECU tuning would help drastically. Maybe an S-AFC, or a JWT ECU.

Then if you still wanted more you could get a set of ITB's (individual Throttle bodies). ITB's will further increase thrrottle response and top end power, but it'll be a totally custom job requiring a custom intake plenum to work with the ITB's. Weber might make some side draft carbs, but carbs are really only good for drag racing imo.

Really until you break into the bottom end and start changing compression ratio, bore, stroke.. your gonna be stuck around 150-160whp. PM DeviousKA. He knows a ton about NA KA's.

Well you have to choose what the car is for? Daily driving or more on the track?

Daily driving get this
C404.H - Strong performer, with good midrange pull to redline. O.K. with automatics. Our strongest seller with the most smiles! {Intake 268 degrees duration, .441 valve list, Exhaust 272 degrees duration, .447 valve lift.} (note: requires cam towers to be milled .025")

Track get this
C.411.H - Full race - not very streetable, and requires stiffer valve springs, computer re-programming and possible injector and fuel pump upgrades. Not a bolt-in cam, and not recommended for street use. {Intake 300 degrees duration, .506 valve lift, Exhaust .300 degrees duration, .506 valve lift. (note: requires cam towers to be milled .060")

I asked about the rims because in an auto they take away about half of your "get up and go" on a stick I would say they take about a quarter. Put your stock rims on and go race that mustang again, I bet you will blow him away.
Or even still if you don't believe me then, still put your stock rims on and just drive it around, you'll feel it, and you’ll get better gas mileage. There is one other thing I could offer as to a solution to your current problem, buy cool jDM tyTE rims, only smaller diameter 15/16” rims. yO.
