What will it actually do (ie, alter emissions/ gain hp/ make exhaust louder? Is it worth doing on a NA engine? alsowork with turbo? how hard is it to put on. thanks

I saw dyno charts of a 95 240sx that had exhuast, intake, and a hedder....after they added a testpipe to that, it actually lost some hp and torque...

240's need back pressure...unless you go turbo, I wouldn't remove you cat.

Burgy-

A "test pipe" or "dump pipe" just replaces the catalytic converter with a solid straight-through design pipe. People say (and I'm one) that if you don't want to run the cat, and say punch it out...(cheap fix for small gain in flow) you create turbulence in the cat chamber because it's got that irregular shape -(wide in the middle, narrow at both ends) and that will decrease your flow anyways, and SOME people (not necessarily myself) think that the increased turbulence is actually BAD for your system.

I run a PDM test pipe, and I'm very happy with it- I don't get as many backfires and such, although I really wouldn't say it's any louder...very simple install also.

YES, you now will have exhaust emissions problems (NO CAT!
I noticed a decent power gain, but I could also be smoking crack. I would say if you're not interested in saving the world from catastrophe, try one on for size, just make sure you have friends in the inspection industry. You should also be able to run the test pipe with a turbo, I don't see any fitment difference...

Welp- hope that helps a bit...

You can buy "dummy cats" that will have free flow...and yet pass the emissions visual inspection.

the only emissions test we have is they stick a sensor up your cars tailpipe and test the phloricarbons(spl) and then the check to make sure your gas cap is pressurized. Thats it.

They will magically give you 20hp at the crank. Ad a huge ass sticker to your ride and I'll guarantee an additional 50+hp. This I know, I seen Joe Ricer down the block saying his new Mugen sticker increased his trap speed in the 1/4 to mach 2....LOL...j/k

I wouldn't do it for a daily driver car. We need a little bit of backpressure for the daily grind in traffic and such. Now, if you spend your time in the upper rpm ranges, then I would say yes. You'd probably improve high end breathing/scavaging. If you don't have an intake already with a exhaust, then I wouldn't bother.
