View Full Version : 5-Lug on S13
Cheater240SX

Tried to do a archive search, but it ran into errors... Anyway...
If I want to change my S13 over to a 5-lug setup, what are my options? Can I use S14 spindles on all four corners? Can I use 300ZX spindles anywhere?
Thanks guys!
Robert
I can't say I have an answer, rather another related question:
Which S13 years had 5 lugs, and which had 4? Other than looking at the wheel (obviousl method) is there any other way (VIN# etc) that we can tell if a car was/is 4/5 lug?
Was it trim-level related or just a random sort of thing?
and to ask again, how would one go about converting a 4 lug to a 5 lug pattern?
Do I hear an echo in here?
[do i hear an echo in here? echo in here? in here? ere?]

sadly, the s13 never came w/ 5 lugs... and i been doing research on this subject... i don't get wtf people r taking about, so i'm stickin' w/4lug and looking hard for rims. i was talking to drift freq, he was thinking about doing it, if he does it w/ step by step guide, i'll consider <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
...?!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> I could *swear* I've seen 5 lug S13s running around... let me dig up a photo.... [digs through C&D drives]...
a 180sx photo, though it's probably newer than a '93 (http://adey.tripod.com/180sxvolk.html)
Read the specs... though they may be a little off. =p
I actually can't find any other photos right now, but I'm under the impression that they were available
[edit: damn tripod won't let me host images!!]

Thats Koguchi's 180sx.
Yes , it has a five lug hub, but it was taken out of a Skyline(r32 or r34 cant remember)
Does anybody know where I can get those Nismo LM GT4 wheels?

They sell a kit where you can swap you're 4lug hub out with a 5lug hub. Or you can get a s14 hub with the lower arm and modify a little and slap it one in the front and for the rear you can bolt on R32 or Z32 and do the conversion, but you have to do some work back there because the r32 and z32 have a drum in disk brake system unlike the s13's disk only rear brakes.

drum in disk? Do you mind elaborating on how they do/use that

i just did mine today all you need are s14 front knuckle and spindles. s14 hubs front and rear or rear 300zx hubs. 5 lug wheels
also get a s14 ball joint the s13 is longer in lenght than the s14 so you wont have a good fit with the s13 ball joint. i did my z32 brake upgrade also
i just need to do the rear hubs and thats all

well camppain, you pretty much summed it up and yes I am planning on the 5 lug swap and yes you do need S14 ball joints which you want to install on the S13 control arm. you do not want to use S14 control arms because it will mess up your suspension geometry.
anyways thats about it, S14 spindle, hub and rotor with s14 ball joint up front. S14 hub and rotor in the rear. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

The Z32 and the R32 have drum in disk brakes on the back. What I mean by that is that the when you're driving around and use the brakes the disk brakes are at work but when you pull the e-brake up you're actually locking the rear brakes with drum brakes that are on the inside. One the S13's when you pull the e-brakes the cable just pulls the disk brakes and locks them. The rear brake swap is pretty popular among drifters in Japan because the wheels lock up easier/better with the inner drum brakes.

If I can find me some stock 5lug rims I'm thinking about doing the swap. How much does it cost to pick up some Z32 brake disks and Calipers from say......Autozone or something?

autozone 50 bucks

anyone know if there's a DIY or step-by-step instruction page for the 4->5 lug conversion? I'm still somewhat new when it comes to cars. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
Many thanks!

Does that 50 bucks include any core charge because I don't have any Z32 calipers to turn in to them.
When we talk about the Z32, is the drum-in-disk rear brake only on the TT version, or is it on the NA version as well?
Anyone have a size (diameter) on the rear Z32 brakes vs 240SX brakes?

It is on the NA Z32 as well

i will be doing a step by step guide and emailing all the info to west for the 5 lug swap along with the z32 brake upgrade.
the brake upgrade is on my website just go to installs. i also have pictures of the 240 vs the 300zx rotors next to each other. you'll see the difference.
as for the autozone 50 buck calipers yes its a 55 core here in chicago i asked the guy if i could just give my 240 calipers said it would e ok. i really doubt it they know what the diferences are in z32 brakes and 240 brakes over there also. im returning my calipers today for my core charge an ill let you know what happens
