View Full Version : Got my SR dynoed

Took my car to altered atmosphere today, and got it dynoed. I actually was pretty pleasantly surprised - - not by the peak hp, but by the power curve, and especially the torque curve. My peak hp was 261.8 at 6600, peak torque 239.0 at 5100, but I was making above 230 ft-lbs all the way from 3700 to 5600. The power curve is almost perfectly linear too - it actually has a bulge in the midrange. I'll post the charts when I get access to a scanner - hopefully tomorrow.

EDIT: And that peak power was on the 11th run (they didnt take it any higher than 6400 before that), and right after the 45 minute drive to the place. My shit was already hot, and it did that well...

Yeah, and who said the SR doesn't make a lot of low end torque?

Heh, forgot about the problems.

Well, the first problem was overheating - they ran it 42 TIMES (they were tuning the a/f ratio too). My shit will cool down though...

The MUCH more pressing problem was that because of the stress of that many consecutive runs, and the fact that i guess the bolt wasn't tightened down enough, my alternator pulley fell off on the way home...yeah...that really sucks, considering until I find one I have to run totally off the battery. Anyone know where I can find one?

Hrmmm...so what did you say the problem that you are having is again?

Must have posted right after I read the first post...well...I don't know where you can find one, but why not try Unstable-Hybrids, DA Performance, or SRSwap.com, to name a few? If they can't help you, I'm sure that they would be able to point you in the direction of someone that could. I don't know what shop you got it from, but you should also try given them a holler.

What is it that you have done to the car? How much boost?

AVC-R running .9 bar of boost
Apex N1 Turbo
Greddy 3" Downpipe
(still have the stock premuffler thingy, thats gotta be eating up power...my exhaust goes from over 3", to 2 and a quarter, baloons out in the middle of the muffler, goes back down to 2 and a quarter, and then back to over 3")
Blitz LM I/C
Sard BOV
HKS filter
Greddy Radiator

Besides that, if interested, couldn't tell what you meant:
Tein HA Suspension w/ pilo mounts
Volk LE37T 18x8.5, 18x7.5

Hopefully the stock LSD, bigger injectors and bigger turbo come soon (after selling all the shit in my garage).

OOOOOOOOOO...How do you like the Tein HA's??? I'm thinking of getting those. And I was right, they are going to come out with the HA's w/ on-the-fly adjustability, so once that happens, and I get my swap (good god, when am I going to get that damned thing), I will get coilovers, Teins and Apex-i's being the top choices. If you forgot the question, how do you like the Teins?

They're fuckin great...nice and stiff, but the ride isn't TOO maddening, even at setting 10 out of 16 (16=stiffest). The car handles great, but don't take my word for it...I'd wait for a review from Hipposleek (he can actually drive, as in race, and i've promised him a drive in my car)...

Great runs at AA! We need to see those charts!!

Were they able to get control of the a/f curve? What did you start out at vs. the final? Those guys are supposed to be awesome at boosted cars, so I'd imagine they found some extra hp hidden away in there.

If only the pulley fell off, that shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure there are aftermarket ones available in the US - if not a bolt on equivolent on another car. Just so long as it's not a bracket! I'd drop Yury a line.

I'm antsy about taking a spin with those. I just wish that I hadn't been so overwhelmed with the power and could have appreciated the ride last week. As far as the drive, I've heard all good things about the performance ride... it's the streetability that I'm worried about. For sporty dirving, your limit will definately be your tire (but they'll get better as they wear) and your brakes. (I'll try to give you a call later about the numbers)

-who is awfully glad that B chose to build the car he wanted to build so he could check it out before he bought it... but will be oddly glad when B takes that beast down south so he doesn't have to always hear about the guy with the really fast AND good looking SR 240

Sweet, I can't wait to hear a review from a "real driver." The thing about the HA's that I would wait for personally is the on-the-fly adjustability. That way if I'm just doing highway driving in Chicago (I don't live in Chicago, but I've been there), then I could soften up the suspension for all of the nasty potholes. But if I feel like being sporty and drifty, then on comes the stiffness (I'm talking about the coilovers guys...jeez you have a dirty mind ).

Nice to hear about your Sr dyno, post more info when you can. I love hearing about projects.

This is just a thought but maybe air in the coolant?

Nice job though. So how are the TA's on crappy roads and such?

crazycuban

Nah, the coolant and the alternator pulley have to be related...considering that the belt for the alternator also goes to the water pump...hehe...should have thought of that earlier.

I have my HA's set on 10 out of 16, and they're not horrible unless I'm on interstate 66 (if you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry bout it)...I'm going to turn it down to 0 when I get around to it.

BTW, talking with some guys at the tuning shop I go to, who are the mid atlantic distributors for Tein, that on the fly shit is looking sicker and sicker. Turns out it has three presets...so you can set one for comfort (0 all around), one for straight race (stiff all around, or close to it), and one for drift (stiffer in back I guess)...

The dyno charts should have been up today, but I'm pretty sure I'll have em tomorrow or Saturday.
